Greetings my name is CincyJoe and I played PLO professionally for two years in Cincinnati and Vegas. I am 8k words into my first PLO book and I’m looking for some advice. First do any of you have any idea how to go about getting two plus two to potentially publish my book? If a major publisher published it I would only charge 50 a copy but if I have to self publish on Amazon I will charge 500 a copy. I published a book on Amazon myself about bipolar disorder and only my friends and family read it. It’s not EV positive for me to self publish on amazon for 50 so my opponents in my city can learn how to play against me. They would be the only ones who would buy it so they have to pay at least 500. Your thoughts?

Rip off your family for the 500 is really your only option.

I heard a guy named ClevelandJoe may be coming out with a PLO book soon also. So you may have to rethink your prices at that point, because competition tends to drive prices down.

So my name is actually PittsburghJoe and I put out a PLO book recently. Don't appreciate you ripping off my idea - I did charge family and friends 1000 and gave it out cheaper to everyone else because that's how you treat family. I've actually played pro for 3 years between Pittsburgh and Vegas so I think I'm a little more experienced in this field.

I think IF your book will be good, it will be good for live games, probbly local live games which are softer then online games 99% of the time.
therefore, pepole wont be hurry to buy it since there's alot of info outthere from more approved sources.
Also live players are not the best audience for a book, alot of them are recs which come to have fun.

Can anyone provide a review of Cincinnatti Joe, Cleveland Joe, and Pittsburgh Joe's books? I'm trying to decide which one to buy as I'm on a limited budget. Thanks!

If your goal is making as much money as possible, you'll be better off not publishing a book, using the knowledge to make a nice graph, then charge lots of money for coaching.

Might not have travelled over the pond but there’s a new book out by LondonJoe here in the UK, not read it yet though but is supposed to go pretty in depth into PLO so might want to check the competition

I think some of you are being a little unfair.

I did get to read the fist part of the book in question and while we decided not to publish it my opinion is that CincyJoe would beat the live PLO game at Aria and I think the book reflects this. As for exactly how good this book would be it's hard to say since I only saw a small part of it plus I'm not very knowledgeable at PLO.

For Cincy Joe: My best guess is that if you do finish your book and it does come, as you indicated to me, to approximately 80,000 words and you take it to Amazon for publication, selling it for more than $30.00 would be a mistake. This is especially true since you're currently an unknown author.

OK .. new idea ..

Somehow get a bunch of folks to show up for a PLO Zoom seminar at $40 .. then pick/get 10 of them to come to a location for an intense training camp at $500 each (and they get the book for free). Hopefully they give you glowing reviews and then put the book out there for $55.

You could go the best seller route .. Publish and have 10-20 of your best friends businesses buy up enough books to make it a 'best seller'.. then hand your book out for free at these (now) $110 seminars. GL
