Missed draw vs capped range. River play?

5/10, UTG raises to $40, 2 calls, I call in MP with A654, cutoff and button call.

Stacks $900 effective.

Flop ($215) 864
Checks around.
Turn 3

I bet $200 with my NFD and double gutter.
Hijack calls.

River ($615) J
Hero?
Hero has some showdown value v missed draws. Specific villain will call any bet if he has 25, will probably fold worse to a jam, will probably call small bets with hands that beat hero's.

Check, bet small as bluff, or $*#&# it and shove?

Bet large - jam. If 450-550 accomplishes the same, no need to lose more when called.

I guess I'm now a nit because I would just check in this spot. Every time I try to fold out a straight or set they call putting me on a missed draw.

Re: Missed draw vs capped range. River play?

your hand is blocking some of the pairs you want villain to have, but it also blocks some of the wrap type holdings he would have called turn with. the 57xx and 25xx are the real concern, im wondering if villain is weak enough to VPIP in HJ for 40 w/ those holdings?

you do have some SDV, but villain is likely calling with some kind of wrap/SD+pair, and my concern is that if you check he could showdown a better two pair like 86xx or J8xx. you also have the 5, interrupting the highest straight, and for those reasons i think you should bet. if villain is a fun player you might want to check and see a cheap SD because he could very well have A2xx or T987 and not give you any ccredit

Villain is indeed a fun player, can literally have any 4 cards calling up to 20bb preflop. I think V is potting flop w/ T987 though. W/ 57, they are almost always betting flop, and always raising my turn bet.

Re: Missed draw vs capped range. River play?

I almost always barrel here even against one of the worst villains described to do it his range is probably wider so it works out... sizing is villain dependent but default is shove cause he has 2p/sets somewhat often so small sizing is not going to be best and balances your value sizing.

If you were villain in this hand with 25xx would you raise this turn bet? I wonder if that's the best play or is calling turn and calling non heart rivers better.

I think you can just x here. You have enough showdown value tbh. There's a lot of 79x in villain range. Not trying to get a set to fold...

Re: Missed draw vs capped range. River play?

very good hand to 3bet pre

as played, i like betting smaller on the turn, getting called by some flush draws that we dominate, checking river make sense, alot of draws missed like T987 with hearts, if villian bets river we can definetely call here as he should raise all his nutted hands on the turn to such a big bet from hero.

probably if you feel your beat by villians random 2 pair, you should consider potting it 25% of the time with your blockers
