I think that can often be very fair. Assuming the horse is a very good player, in live tournies, especially the WSOP's which are probably the softest tournies of the year, unless they are playing a really hard schedule, good players can often get a 100% ROI or more. Selling at 1.25 and even 1.35 for very good players in a soft schedule is still a good deal.
Also when buying, always ask about the tax situation. For me in Canada, 30% is witheld. Apparently you can get it all (or most back) and can definitely get back 30% of your losses from it (so they are only taking 30% of total trip profit). But this still adds up and if the taxes are initially coming out of your share, the markup should definitely be decreased.
