Hang in there Antchev. I'm at my 3rd break even month this year(400k hands). I'm pro'lly playing terrible but I do ran bad too (over 100 bi below ev this year again). All we can do is play our best and wait for better variance (gav style)

Hey you acted like I've been complaining antchev! I'm down in cash in 4/5 months too if that makes you feel any better. Binking the SCOOP has me no way near even for the year.

I ran something like 160k under EV from october until february antchev, just keep your head down and keep grinding and eventually it'll start to turn around.

i am not running nearly as bad as you guys but have started looking for other life paths. jobs crossed my mind but then to pass the time i played some SNGs. playing $20 SNGs one could probably make $100k a year. and next year i may go back to them for a simpler, less stressful life.

plan is to go back to mostly 5/10 after the series, been a wild couple months, still finding my grinding rhythm. Change of scenery is gonna be good for me. i never tilt live!

i've actually capped myself at 2/4 with the responsible gaming thing for the time being. and still managed to tilt a bunch the other night

Far from it, I just read your PLOmaha blog and know how terrible your 2010 year graph looks and you're definitely one guy that is running way worse than me.

It's not even that I have monetary issues with it, after rakeback I'm down something like 20K for the year, which is half a month of rungood at 2/4, what currently I'm playing. It's just a 200K hands stretch and I didn't think I'll have to experience something like this with my nitty style. There is no real option to quit PLO right now cause the best offer I can get in Bulgaria as a software developer as experienced and well educated I am is 30K/year before taxes and past 3 years I've been easily in the 6 figures zone playing PLO, feels like I'll be making a huge retreat.

Just read the results from the 5k scoop PLO.

GJ gavz, LFTV and PB etc.

Dont think i have ever seen the PLO-vets dominate the prize list like that before.

I think 99% of poker players should have some other sort of job possibility up their sleeve in case things go sour. Either you require impeccable BR + life financial management (which very few people have) or you need to be crushing nosebleeds to be able to not have another option. Those people beating 1/2 or SNGs for 50-100k a year are gonna be ****ed in a few years time if they can't beat higher stakes, if the games get tougher, the laws change or another of a million things in this totally unreliable industry go wrong.

I'm probably going to go to Law School next year, and hope poker stays good for the next 5 so that I can put myself through it. If I move up to nosebleeds and can put away a bunch of money, or bink a huge tourney, I may drop-out but it seems so much wiser and +EV than hoping poker will stay as it is / improve over time.

uh....genius roy. poker is a great game but todays poker market place is on a downward slide. any full time player with no backup plan better be the hardest working and luckiest person in the world if they think their current winrate will continue over the next five years

Nice post Roy, I had the same reflexion and that's why I'm going back to school part time next fall after 5 years. Not an easy decision but the best one imo.

how old are you guys?

building an investment portfolio that pays passive income (rent, dividends) is naturally a great approach if you're a winning player, and it doesn't even have to be nosebleeds to start gradually building up your portfolio.

baby steps.

I'm finishing my Masters degree in applied economics in june (fingers crossed) and all I can say is I'm glad I didn't drop out.

Have to admit though, it's been close a couple of times. It's just so appealing when you can make more money enjoying your hobby for 5 hours a day than you can slaving away for 8 hours a day at a job that requires a university degree.

On top of that, the margin for improvement and 'promotion' if you wanna call it that way seems so much wider in poker than it does when one takes the traditional corporate route.

Still, I think it's hugely important to have a back-up plan for when the poker economy 'dries up'. It's very hard to predict how fast the market will saturate, but it's fact that the winrates of people who don't constantly improve will decline over time.
