Hi all,

5/5/15 PLO5, very good/tough reg opens to $50 two different times on hero's straddle or BB (he tends to do this), both times hero has ds AA with so-so side cards (347 and 278), there is one caller before it is on hero, OOP. Do you 3! with effective stacks around $1,100? What about $800? Why/why not? Other Vs are fish.

V has said he'd never 3! AA against certain players because they probably have AA too (after I once told him I folded AKKds to his 3! squeeze). What do you make of this?

Thanks,
DT

AAxxx in 5-card, especially when double suited, is still a great hand just like any 4-card version.

In another thread, although it was a 4-card discussion, I mentioned SPR 1 and SPR 4. At SPR 1, if you hit any part of the board you get it in. At SPR 4, if you have a good hand, then you get it in. Therefore, given the hand of this thread, if you 3-bet to $150, then you will be under SPR 4. Dry AAxxx on a disconnected rainbow board would be good enough to get it in at under SPR 4. So you don't even have to do better than the AA part of your hand depending on the flop. With you having two nut suits and lots of straight draws, you are fine.

I try so damn hard to get it in good and often think about who is the favorite and who is the dog. When I think about your situation here, I think you will mostly be about 50-50 and some of the time you will be 55-45. Furthermore, if players are raising your straddles or big blind, you have to shut that crap down by aggressively fighting back even with small advantages.

Ok what about the need for deception and not playing face up without getting more than 25% in pre? I fear “outing” myself with so much left to play for behind against a good player. Plus this way he can’t just blast A-high flops.

Both instances you’re <100bb effective with DS AA, clear 3b

You can have your ssAA in your flatting range as an adjustment

The method to solve this spot gets complicated pretty fast - a good reg should fold some hands vs a 3!

Even 1100 is kind of shallow in this format, so we can consider potting the majority of good aaxxx hands.

But to make it easier, i would advocate a mixed strategy with aaxxx as stacks are deeper, flatting more with weaker sidecards and raising more with premiums.

Aa87x is a better hand to raise with than aa347 based on postflop playability.

I would advocate for flatting w good side cards because you will have more playability and ripping w bad side cards to deter post flop play.

You only need to put in 1/9 of your stack pre to get a SPR of 4, then pot flop/pot turn as long as the board isn't horrible. It's surprisingly effective in a +EV sense.
