I like calling pre if there are players at the table who will stack off/pay 3 streets with understraights, 2 pair, or bottom set etc.. Or, if the table is playing super passive pre and most pots are limped. Otherwise, I don't think we get in enough +EV situations by open limping EP. This is an opinion, you can't prove this right/wrong as it would require a massive simulation.

Quadtwos, your last point is ridiculous. open limping rainbow aces is much better than open limping 899T because of the overset value you get from people who can't fold 9923 preflop, or for 190bb postflop if they hit a set.

I'd sooner fold AA27 rainbow UTG then 899T in EP. Not that I'd do it too often, but if stack is deep and I need to put a decent size of my stack in the middle, but no where near enough to commit, and I am up against multiple players, then folding very bad aces isn't such a bad idea. On the other hand, folding 899T at least SS under the same situation would be.
finally, the thread is going into the right direction!
it started off with a very difficult situation anyway, but now we really are getting closer to optimal play...

Llimping with bad aces is fine. I did not say otherwise. What I said was that I would sometimes fold very bad aces in certain situations.

What is ridiculous about folding very bad aces OOP against multiple players when stacks are deep and you need to put in a fair amount of chips, but nowhere near enough to commit? The only way we can continue with the hand post-flop is if we hit a set. Do we really want to put in a lot of money for set-mining only?

Yeah with folding pre... ****ty equity multiway and often second and third best. Probably just potting it now. Don't think you can go much wrong with calling 80% of the time turn will be non flush and we can GII repping a wider range.
