Great bump for those of us who weren't around 2+2 in 2007. While most of the stuff from 2007 isn't up to day with today games these bits of wisdom are timeless.

Definitely agree. I clicked into the Digest thread in SSPLO sticky to find some reading content and stumbled upon this thread. Well worth it.

Just stick to BRM, I know saying that, is like duh!

But think how many times you played using poor bankroll management, and what stakes you would be playing now if u used proper bankroll management.

I'm convinced whoever wrote this post must be one of the greatest poker minds of our generation. I bet he has made millions and millions of dollars playing poker! There's no way such a smart, responsible, shrewd individual could be six figures in debt.

Updates OP? Glad you're alive. Have you been continuously been playing online and live poker all this time? Thoughts of how the game is different? How about how the poker ecosystem and landscape changed has since?

Itís been quite a ride since I posted this thread at the end of 2010. Shortly after Black Friday I moved my play to euro sites and did pretty well there. Towards the end of 2012 I had begun to dread poker and took a break for a while. When the lease on my apartment got up in early 2013 I put all my belongings in a storage unit and decided to travel. I didnít have much in the way of cash but I had a healthy credit line.

I was in Vegas for over a month in 2013 and for the first time in my life put in a lot of effort at live poker. I bricked the 5 WSOP events I played in that year, but I was staked for all but one, and made some money in the cash games despite a couple meltdown tilt sessions. Then I went to visit an old friend in the mountains of Idaho then up to British Columbia, where I started to play on poker stars again. After I went to Seattle, Northern Europe and California.

Had some difficulties after losing a bunch of my $ on muchos poker first and then getting my stars account with 5k in it banned for vpning from US. I spent around 4 months busto and highly depressed living with my folks, before getting back in action on Bovada and winning a lot in a quick period. I went back to Vegas for wsop 2014 and played a ton of Aria plo cash, mostly the 2-5 game with the rock. I started out winning lots but then my luck turned and I tilted and ended up a big loser.

I then traveled back to Vegas/San Diego in November and Vegas in January of that year to meet up with some poker friends (johan5390 and doorbread to name a couple) and had a great time there despite not playing any live poker. I was making good money at this time but was still running up a good deal of debt from putting all the plane flights, hotels, meals, etc on my credit cards. After that I went to Thailand and met up with some more 2p2ers there.

To make a long story short since Iíve already written a lot in this thread, I moved into a furnished apartment in Sept 2016 and shortly after went busto and had to rely on my parents and driving for Uber to pay the bills. I gave live poker a chance 2017 summer without much luck, and now Iím just grinding around at cheeseburger stakes trying to run up a br.

Iíve also had some legal and mental struggles during this time that Iíd rather not get into publicly at the moment. Suffice to say I got arrested twice and am permanently banned from Foxwoods Mohegan and Twin River casino. I am $50,000 in debt to banks and probably around 60k in debt to family (though they told me it was a gift that theyíre not expecting back). I also lived up to my old screen name by crashing and totaling another car on the highway.

As for thoughts about how the game has changed I canít really say since itís been a while since Iíve played for serious stakes, but 1-2 and 2-5 games are still very soft and in the summer of 2016, Bovada was also very easy to beat. The online ecosystem has become a tougher environment for sure from what Iíve read. Iíve never used solver so Iím a little scared of whatís going to happen when I moved up stakes.

Hereís a pic of my car crash

Do you think if you didn't have your parents to catch you when you fall, that you would keep going busto and crashing cars?

I wouldnt try grinding plo these days at any meaningful stakes if you had so much trouble years ago. Maybe pppoker (games can be quite good and they have 5card as well). Betonline is also good sometimes, but online poker is just dreadful for US players these days for jumping stakes making any kind of living if you dont already have a big roll .

If my parents didnít support me Iíd probably just have a crap job, a crap apartment with a roommate and get by ok. I get 1200/month from unemployment from the government and got a lump sum of 20k for back pay when I got approved (which I gave to my parents) so Iím not really leeching off my folks that much anymore, fwiw. Also, Iíve only had two car accidents in 15 years of driving so itís not as if Iím crashing cars all the time.

If I was all on my own I might just take the game more seriously without a safety net and end up running up a small deposit into a workable br and be a poker pro again at some point, which is also what Iím trying to do now. Honestly not sure if Iím good enough to win, but Iím only down about 150 since I started playing as a hobby this past August, and was up 1400 at one point. I donít think I can beat ACR pre rake back, but I think I can probably still be +ev on the other US sites, at least if the higher stakes games play anything like they did in 2016.

I mentioned pppoker because in some clubs you can get up to 50% rb. I get 25% right now and it is really sick to see how much im paying to be a plo junkie (I dont track my hands generally)

If you were a good winning player at plo years ago you can absolutely slay here even if you have a low variance/vpip style like I do . I only play up to 100plo but you will see ppl dumping money here like no other site there is

Do you have to play pppoker on an iPad? Any advice on how to get into a soft and trustworthy club?
