Hi everyone, so Ive been playing PLO online... I have little PLO experience and very little online experience. I play Big O and O8 live quite a bit so I understand the quality hands. I am just used to no limit cash games so I feel like my play needs some adjustments.

In a no limit game, in a raised pot, pre flop, if you flop the nuts you can jam to avoid making tough decisions on later streets.

So I would just like some advice on how to approach the game. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Search the forums, you'll find info on what hands to play and from where as a beginner.

The biggest thing you can do when you're starting out is to play straight forward. Don't chase 2nd and 3rd best draws. Don't get all the money in on the flop when your hand doesn't have any chance of improving (ie. better straight, flush draw, full house, etc). Dont' chase straights when their are flush draws out, don't call down straights when their are flushes out, don't call down straights or flushes when the board is paired and your opponent starts betting hard, don't get married to big pocket pairs and finally avoid playing out of position.

If you play simple poker, you will make it through the learning curve that will allow you to make decisions based on ranges, your opponents tendency, how they view you and all sorts of things that you're likely doing in NL. Until you log a ton of hands, those concepts are going to be elusive in PLO and likely just cost you money because you're incorrectly reading a situation.

Start at the micros, its much cheaper to learn there.

I guess my biggest question is hot to act when you flop the nuts in a pot limit game. In no limit, you can jam your chips but it PLO its easier to get run down.

So lets say, I flop 6's full in a raised pot pre flop. I am in early position, should I bet pot and hope no callers get a bigger boat? Or do I check and call or check raise?

I know which hands to play and from which position, I am just not used to pot limit.

Thank you!

in PLO you have to be way more careful with the type of full you have. Taking your example of the 6's full, flopping the underfull with 66 on KK6 or the overfull on 655 is a huge difference. On KK6 you can easily be outdrawn by anyone holding a K, so you might not want to build up a pot too much because you'll basically be blind flying on most turns, especially oop.
So based on the number of opponents you might want to check your underfull and see what happens and even fold to heavy action behind you. Against one bettor behind you you might be able to check/raise it all-in, but don't expect to gii as a big favorite too often.
Let's say next hand you are holding A432 and the flop comes AA4. Solid overfull, but again you want to be careful playing it oop. If you pot it and get called, you will be guessing from the turn onward if your opponent spiked a better full and will never feel comfortable playing check/call to full pot bets.

So yeah, what you want to do is ask yourself if you want to build a big pot or not, and play accordingly. There is no shame in check/calling down the better hand and keeping the pot small. There is also no shame in folding a full house
