Grabbed by Holdem Manager
PL Omaha $5(BB) Replayer
SB ($581)
BB ($485)
Hero ($635)
UTG+1 ($515)
CO ($454)
BTN ($888)

Dealt to Hero 4 A 8 A

Hero raises to $15, fold, fold, BTN raises to $45, fold, fold, Hero raises to $145, BTN calls $100

FLOP ($300) 5 8 6

Hero bets $300, BTN calls $300

TURN ($900) 5 8 6 K

Hero bets $190 (AI), BTN calls $190

Villain is basically unknown, but has played 26/19 over 40 hands, doesnt seem bad at least
Does gutshot/pair make this an easy pot call? Is any other bet size worth considering?

Obviously his call on the flop is very disturbing - can I afford to check fold when I only need 15% equity to call if i check and he shoves?

Are u potting the flop with the nuts? I don't see a need to pot here. He's either folding to most any c-bet or he has you beat and is not folding. I almost prefer c/f , but I'd probably b/f and not continue if called on the flop.

if i bet like 150 I think I get shoved on by a ton of one pair + gut shot hands that I have more than enough equity against which is what makes it a pretty awkward spot I think

I like check-folding on this board.

Actually, after running a sim, I don't like it that much :

ProPokerTools Omaha Hi Simulation
7,299,640 trials (Exhaustive)
board: 865
Hand Pot equity Wins Ties
ah8has4s51.47% 3,742,44829,152
8%!AA48.53% 3,528,04029,152

On higher boards, check-folding looks much better, for instance on 8c9ctc :

ProPokerTools Omaha Hi Simulation
6,495,220 trials (Exhaustive)
board: 89t
Hand Pot equity Wins Ties
ah8has4s34.40% 2,233,0892,442
8%!AA65.60% 4,259,6892,442

yes, T98 mono is a clear CF

This board is not when we have a pair and a gutshot and it hits his range less. hence the thread

Praetor, i would think that you do better against the range that shoves a small bet then the range that calls a pottbet. So if you decided to get it in i would prefer bet small and call it off than pot flop turn. Horrible spot though, i never done the sims so was good to see. The small bet works better for me in my overall gameplan as well. Guess it depends on how often you think he will float you as well. I think this would be a good spot to float with kkc against small bet on the flop.

Then bet/call when he shoves and check/fold the turn when he flats you. EZ game. Usually, potting the flop just to avoid tough decisions even if it makes villain play perfectly against you is going to be a bad idea.
