I'm new to a 5/5 PLO home game. I've only been 3 times so I don't have the great reads, also I'm very new to PLO so I'm probably terrible at it.

But it's a very loose game with lots of action, lots of calls, lots of loose calls, lots of chips flying around. Just a super fun game with gamblers. I hope to be +EV in the game but am super new to PLO so who knows.

So game is 6 handed.

Preflop
There's a $10 straddle
I call with K J 8 8, button calls, SB folds, BB calls, straddle checks.

Flop ($50 in the pot)
8 9 4
BB checks, straddle checks, I bet $50, button calls, BB calls, straddle folds.

Turn ($200)
7
BB checks, I check, button bets $200, BB folds, I fold.

Feedback on all streets? I've logged like 10 hours lifetime of PLO.

This is my first session with button. He seems quiet and serious but really I have almost nothing to go on. Like I'd say like 2% of a read of quiet and serious and 98% unknown reg in this action game.

In a 3 way pot villain usually has a straight here, it looks like a decent spot to lay it down to me, you probably don't have anything in the way of implied odds because on all of your boat cards villain will give you plenty of credit for having a lot of full houses so it's not likely you make an additional bet when getting there, you can sometimes chop on a 10 but also on flush completing rivers you don't have much in the way of good blockers to bluff those run outs.

Stacks? Probably fold pre and check flop. Your hand can't stand any action

Turn cards that make things difficult if button bets: 5,6,7,T,J,Q,club
Safe turns: A,K,2,3,4,8,9 (non-club)

There are so many turns we don't like, that IMO bloating pot on the flop doesn't bode well, esp since we have to avoid all those cards again on the river to feel safe. Button could be bluffing, but hey, that's the advantage of position. You're in a shi**y spot if you call, then button bets another $400 on a non-paired river.

X/call flop...As played def folding the turn.

I don't mind the flop bet, especially vs weaker opponents

pre is a pretty easy muck

so many live plo players check sets here on coordinated flops (and sometimes just check fold) and it boggles my mind b/c I am a HU and 6-max player.

Two 8c's? Makes a difference to the range of hands we give.

If you're new to PLO fold pre.

On the flop you can bet or check in this spot, it's good to mix it up. But I would rarely check raise

Check folding the turn seems pretty weak if there was two clubs on the board. The button's hand is very undefined at this point. It's important to know if there were two clubs on the flop or not.

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like I definitely need to tighten up preflop, especially in early position, especially while I'm new to PLO. For example someone mentioned blockers which isn't even something I was thinking about.

It's kind of an interesting game/spot, in that it's 5-5 but probably plays like a lower game, and all the guys have much more experience than I do playing PLO, but much less experience playing poker.
