2/4 plo, awkward spot... i did this to myself

2/4 plo 6 handed

Main vilain is new so no reads, snap bought full and waited for blinds so im assuming a reg

He has 625$ (utg)
Sb is a massive fish, id be very surprised if utg is unaware of that.

Im in bb with 1k and sb covers me.

Main vilain raises to 14$ utg
Sb calls
I call with A7K9
No preflop strat please (it was a min vpip table and i was close to being kicked out so had to call any 4)

Flop (42$): 984

Sb checks , i lead 42$ ??, utg raises me to 144$, sb folds

I never expected him to raise, not from a reg anyway possibly knowing that sb couldve spewed. How do we proceed here? Thoughts on the lead?

No preflop strat? Aside from the fact it seems bizarre to place conditions on the help you're asking people for, no-one will argue for a fold here, it's closer to a 3bet, and I'd probably do so maybe 20% of the time at a guess.

Flop lead is fine. Once you get raised, call and play turns, with the plan of checking and calling most turns. Greatly dislike putting another bet in.

I would actually be pretty tempted to jam now, ep shouldn't have much of a raising range vs our lead - and much less hands that can call a jam when we block nut flush and top set. Its still close vs unknown but turn will be pretty tough if we call.

Also even though lead is fine, i don't like full pot - 60 - 75% is better allows us to lead more hands and get value from being called wider.

villain raised utg, we definitely should jam here, he probably has some sort of over pair + straight draw + diamonds

I don't get any of the logic for jamming, can someone explain?

I’ll give it a go:

- We block all the nutted hands (99, nfd, AAxxdd, KKxxdd) so we have some fold equity
- Our hand does well vs vilains overall range
- Turns are hard to play oop unless a diamond comes
- If we dont shove this hand... what are we shoving as bluffs in this spot?
- small chance vilain is just button clicking

Punish weaker 2p and combo draws in a spot where villain line looks suspicious. Getting it in against dominated draws is a good result. Folding out some jtxx and overpairs is a great result.

Its about 1.25 SPR after call which seems very unfavorable to hero.

What range of hands does he have that raises 100 in position over your pot sized lead after opening pre utg? Opening utg in PLO is less common in my experience and might tell you he has AA, or has a double paired hand, or is a screwball.

Aggressive, good players will have multitudes of hands you should jam over for both value and fold equity (dry two pair). They’ll have tons of ****. I do this all the time as the aggressor very profitably because players don’t respond well to it. They play face up and give me two cards for free or just fold scared.

If he is truly a nit and will only raise to get it in with nutted ranges, then you still need to call.Assigning all the various wrap plus flush plus pair or two pair hands to him is tedious but has tons of combinations and you are flipping or slight dog or slight favorite versus those. He has 3 bottom 3 mid
and 1 top set combination and you are 30% versus that. Some bottom dry two pair or random bluffs players will fold incorrectly if you come over the top even in PLO given the pot odds because people hate the pain of losing and getting shown an “obvious” set.

Well I think a jam is pretty awful as it folds out all his bluffs and only keeps in hands we're doing badly against as a range. I don't think turns are hard to play at all, if we decide to call, it's with the intention of most rivers.
