1/2 w/ 5 bring in good draw on turn

1/2 w/ 5 bring in and $10 BTN straddle

Hero, MP (~$1,000): MAWW. Perceived as tight, and probably does play tighter than many at the table. V1 and V3 know I will occasionally check/raise or check/call them with big hands hoping they will bet. This is one of the best ways to get money from them. They love to bet into “weakness.” I do mix this up quite a bit. My bets get a lot of respect.

V1, SB (~$800): YWG. I think he plays for a living in these underground games. Very loose/aggressive. Willing to gii light / bluff to build his stack and uses a big stack well, but he’s in a few buy-ins and still short. Raises a ton of hands and plays too many hands when he’s short.

V2, BB ($~450): YWG. Not an action player. On the tight side. I don’t think he plays a lot of PLO (as evidence by pre-flop in this hand).

V3, BTN (Covers): YWG. Was in a few buy-ins, but has been running like a god and is pretty deep now. Very loose/aggressive. Loves to gamble. Raises a lot pre and plays way too many hands. Will probably go home broke.

OTTH:

Hero: 8dJdQcKc

BTN straddle $10, SB raises to $30, UTG flat, Hero flats (considered raising, and probably should have)

BTN raises to $150, SB flats, UTG flats, Hero flats (again considered raising, but BTN is quite deep and shoving AA, KK, all rundowns, etc. How much am I ahead of?)

Flop ($600): 2d7hJc

Checks around (amazing, actually). I didn’t see any reason to bet with BTN behind me.

Turn ($600): 2d7hJc Tc

Checks to Hero?

Agreed! That is pretty much the nut card for your hand. You have an 8 in your hand and if someone does have 89 your equity is good.

I wouldn’t get too aggressive with this preflop with two non nut draws in earlish position. As played, bombs away

check/raise....great card for your hand but dont pot it with just one pair and one card to come lol. check and see if you get there for free, if theres a bet then happily check/jam....but i wouldnt pass up a free card if you have the chance

Re: 1/2 w/ 5 bring in good draw on turn

Thanks all. I did pot it. I didn't think anybody had much, but I did question my play afterward -- not sure why..

V3 and V1 both folded and V2 tanked then folded. He said if he had only $200 instead of $300 he'd call. I showed my hand, which I almost never do, and you could see V2 and V3 were not happy They couldn't have had much, though. I was glad to take it down.

Yep. It enables me to bluff or semi-bluff quite convincingly. I did it a few times that night. My bets get a lot of respect.

I almost never show my hand (it's the only hand I showed all night that I didn't have to to win a pot), but occasionally if someone asks, I will -- especially the way this hand went down, but hard to explain. These are people I play with regularly, so I try to keep it as friendly as possible. Not one of my bluffs was called that night

Because he has a tight image(see his own description). He should continue to promote that image and pick up pots uncontested like he did this one. Equities run close in PLO. It's always preferable to pick up pots without showdown. He may get looked up next time after showing his hand. Does that make sense?

I understand your logic, but he probably wants calls more often than folds and this will help him get those imo

She

As stated, I almost never show my hand -- and when I do it's for the good of the game, if that makes sense. It did not affect anything this time. They know I'm capable of bluffing and they also know I almost always have it.

Disagree, see my 3rd sentence above - "Equities run very close in PLO" . This isn't no limit. You are never a huge favorite unless you have set over set or some other cooler. Say you are a 60% favorite heads up. 4 out of 10 times you will lose that pot. If they fold, you win it 100% of the time. I will take a fold all day .

Pot pre first time, don’t back raise, flop good, pot turn. Your hand does better maximising fold equity vs weaker range than trying to check raise off a stronger range.

I guess I was thinking more after the river had been dealt, that's when I typically see people show their hands after winning.

I hear you on maximizing flop/turn fold equity and don't necessarily disagree.

Your opponents are most likely to make the mistake of calling too loose, so ideally you want to craft an image that will encourage them to make that mistake.

Is no one tempted to shove flop?

i would also be tempted, but i think with only 1P+outs to Toptwo 4-way with SPR above 1 against the PFR its way too loose.
