what the hell, other threads are already here. (same disclaimer as last year, caps are my second team, sabres #1)

Ovechkin will be going for his third straight Hart Trophy. Their offense is pretty set as Backstrom and Semin both had great years, as well as the scoring d-man Mike Green. Although Green faded in the last month of the season and playoffs, some say it's due to injury, some say that he was figured out by the league, but I think he'll come back strong this year.

Sergei will be playing in Russia. Brashear in NY. The caps will no doubt address our ridiculously thin defense by promoting a few people from Hershey who are familiar with their system, but may also address this in free agency.

Varlamov will of course be the story next year, although he will still have to win the starting job. However, his main competition is not Theodore, but rather Michal Neuvirth, a Czech phenom who steadily rose through the ranks upto this point, and looks poised to break out as a rookie in the NHL.

oh yes, and PUCK FITTSBURG!

Any Caps season thread that doesn't have some reference to Ovechkin in the title is doomed for failure imo

the thread will almost surely fail, but the Caps will not.

there aren't a lot of us (caps fans) in SE (can we still refer to SE rather than STST?), so the thread dies on a monthly basis, but we do occasionally bump a thread with sick video clips and gif courtesy of #8.

besides, who will be the GREEAR of the Washington Caps thread? me or MuresanForMVP? in number of posts, i mean.

I'd bet on myself, but if there were money involved, i think Muresan would destroy me.

1). Ovechkin top 2 in MVP voting at the end of the year (another 50 goals)
2). Backstrom makes all-star team
3). Matt Bradley wins a fight
4). Semin gets traded
5). Varly will split time with Theodore early on but will take over full-time later, provided he works on his conditioning in the offseason.
6). Get defensive defenseman for us, please George?
7). I get into one fight during or after a game
8). Green scores 20-25 goals and hopefully stays healthy for the playoffs
9). Caps finish top 3 in the East
10). Caps win Stanley Cup over the Chicago Blackhawks

I think Knuble should be good with the team. We need someone like him to bang in front of the net. We didn't get enough garbage goals last year

Yes. Being the young Russian punk that just got ejected from the game because Staal is so much stronger than you that he ripped your jersey and equipment off.

I don't see how much that has to do with him being stronger than Semin, his equipment wasn't secured so it came off. Marc Staal lost a fight to Alex Semin, and isn't half the player that Semin is, so Staal can gtfo. That was last season anyways, so stay in your Rangers thread noob. Bum ass Rangers fans comin' in here acting a fool...

I'm really excited to see Varlamov play a full season, from his playoff performance i'd say he's going to be a sicko in this league

Resigned Schultz for 1 year, Brent Johnson signs with the Pens. Schultz is slower than hell but he's big, and was decent enough for us last season. I just can't get that image of him getting undressed by Dubinsky out of my head though...

I'll say it again, Japer's Rink is the best Caps blog around. Here's a breakdown of how different trios and duos of forwards perform together. When trios are broken down, everyone that has Nylander on it sucks ass, and the only duo where Nylander performs well is when he's with Fedorov. Now that Fedorov's gone Nylander is pretty much completely useless. Can we trade that guy for a ****in subscription to Sports Illustrated, or a case of 40's or something?

from ESPN insider. i don't have the full article, but maybe someone does

Summer Skate -- Washington Capitals

After a heartbreaking second-round loss to the rival Penguins, the Capitals will be looking to make amends for that defeat in 2009-10. Having lost Viktor Kozlov and Sergei Fedorov and having added Mike Knuble, the Capitals really don't have many holes at forward. Defense, on the other hand, is another story. So unless the team's young defenders, like Karl Alzner and John Carlson, come along quickly, the Capitals may be spinning their wheels next season.

I wish I had insider. Caps will have around 7 at least decent NHL defensemen, and I think a lot of the talk is being overdone. They'll be a top 3 team in the East again, and hopefully their biggest problem during the postseason (Green) won't be injured or whatever. Saying they "may be spinning their wheels" is stupid. This year's team will definitely be better than last year's now that Fedorov the penalty machine, and Viktor "dead weight 85% of the time" Kozlov aren't with em.

yes, looking through Jasper's Rink, it's amazing Kozlov was even on this team.
