No way do they trade him at the deadline. It's a terrible idea from a chemistry/morale standpoint, plus they'll be looking for pitching help and you won't get ML-ready pitching from a seller at the deadline by offering up an aging slugger.

I do agree he won't be on the team next season, though. Draft pick compensation will be enough of a return.

Gonna straight double down on last years Reyes guarantee. 0% chance Bautista is traded.

I've said this many times this year, would love it if they could somehow trade Bautista.

I really wonder how he affects the locker room - either good or bad - cause I am loving him not in the lineup. He's just so unlikable. Dat bat though... tough to replicate that.

Bautista man. All he did was give us five years of fantastic production for fifty cents on the dollar, plus the greatest moment in franchise history since 19-****ing-93. Get him out of here.

There we go... someone gets it.

In all seriousness, I know Bautista is almost 100% to never get traded because of all sorts of reasons. However, in a perfect utopia, if there was a good market for him where maybe a contending National league team let's say wanted to improve their offence and would overpay for him then I think there are hypothetical scenarios where a trade would make sense.

I find it very unlikely that Bautista re-signs in Toronto and if he does I'm sure it will end up being a massive overpayment which means we lose the guy that's been the face of the franchise for the past decade.

Bautista also has a no trade clause

IMO, he is 90% not getting traded and 95% not getting re-signed.

Edwin said he would not give a home town discount, but he is more likely to take a reasonable deal that would see him end his career here.

JoeyBats is more likely to say FU... I can make more than you are offering.

The bad part for Jose is that his days of getting fair value are behind him. Would not be surprised to see him sign a short term (2 year) big $ contract with a club option for a 3rd. I think he is dreaming to look at something long term and big $$.

I think what he does when he comes back will have a huge in say in what happens.

It'll have a big impact on the terms he ends up agreeing to but not, IMO, on his willingness to test the market. He's not gonna sign short-term unless he absolutely has to. I can see 4/$70-80 or something.

Justin Smoak has been extended.

$4.125 million annually in 2017 and 2018, with an option for 2019.

Hope that's not some of Edwin's money? Wonder if they just think Smoak can be moved at that value and/or be the guy to replace Edwin.

Neither seem realistic..
