hahahaha Brett's sister says he wasn't allowed to swing unless the count was 3-2. Did anyone who watched see him swing on any non 2 strike counts?

I don't remember the specific counts but he was awful at the bat. I don't think he ever made contact, even when he was trying to bunt.

Can Carlson hold on to a 7 run lead?

First K he took everything, 2nd K he tried to bunt, except the last pitch. He swung shoulder high at some curveball below his knees and was lol owned.

Ok, Ok, Blue Jays, Blue Jays, Lets... Play... Ball!

The Jays are back in town for a 9-game homestand starting tonight against Cincinnati. No more pitchers batting, no more botched double switches, no more extra innings wear out the bullpen marathons against the worst team in baseball! Hello sweet confines of Uncle Teddy's castle!

Tue, Jun 23 vs CIN: Owings (4-7) vs. Tallet (4-4)
Wed, Jun 24 vs CIN: Arroyo (8-5) vs. Richmond (5-4)
Thu, Jun 25 vs. CIN: Cueto (6-4) vs. Cecil (2-1)

Philly is then in town over the weekend, followed by the highly anticipated first meeting of the season against the division rival Tampa Bay Rays.

The good Doctor is scheduled to come off the DL on Sunday against Philly. w00t w00t!

I'd rather have Halladay pitching against the Rays though

I hear this a lot. Is the difference in the probability of winning a game with the Doc instead of a replacement scrub higher against a good team than a mediocre team? I doubt it, but I wouldn't be surprised if this stuff wasn't linear. Might need to ask the SB forum. Not sure we have any crack sabermetric gamblers trolling the Blue Jays thread.

Edit: By the way, I was skimming, and maybe I misunderstood what FlyingRat was saying. Maybe he just wants the Doc back sooner, or would rather have a better chance of beating a division rival as opposed to an NL team. Makes sense. I'm kind of interested in the "is it better to have your ace against a good team than a weak team" thing, which is a common opinion.

I think a more important factor is that the probability of beating a direct rival in the standing is more valuable than the probability of beating someone else, even if the net increase in probability is the same. Not sure if that makes sense.

Yeah, and that does make sense. A loss for the Rays > a loss for the Phillies, from the Jays' perspective. I just misunderstood what FlyingRat was saying, and was thinking about the "I'd rather have my ace against the good team than the weak team" argument. My elementary fiddling with log5 suggests that you'd rather use your ace against a team that's about evenly matched with yours.

Yeah figured; I'm dumb, and was skimming. I'm ready to go the next time someone says something like what I thought you were saying though, so yay.

It is safe to say our bullpen is among the worst in the league when we dont have Downs.

I'd rather have Halladay back against an AL team because the NL players are generally better bunters, and they'd be nore prone to test Doc's groin with bunts. I won't be suprised if the Rays do it anyway, but the NLers are more likely.

PS. A win tonight is 6 of the last 8, and we could have easlily gone 8 straight with those 2 extra-inning losses to Washington.

The Jays have 20 tough games ahead of them....proving ground time.

Hopefully they'll come out of this 53-40 (13-7) over next 20. If not, then 45-48 (5-15), and they can pack it in.

But knowing the Jays, they'll find that awkward middle ground and come out 49-44 just give us both grief and hope.

Seriuosly though, I have a good feeling about them being 53-40..

Marcum is throwing simulated games, and will start minor league rehab in a week or two. So realistically he will be back at some point in August.

Last week Alex Anthopolous (Assistant GM) hinted that he wasn't progressing much recently, and Riciardi re-stated that yesterday. It's safe to say he wont be back this year, and by spring training next year its safe to say whether he will/wont be able to ever pitch again.

Do the Jays have the best defensive infield in the game? Some of the plays tonight by Rolen/Scutaro/Hill were unreal and it seems to be that way every game.
