I've enjoyed the Jays from afar the last few years. Really hope you guys break through this season.

8-6 loss.

Jays continue to lead the league in useless runs scored.

Can someone explain to me how the Lind trade with the Brewers worked? I know the Jays had an option on Lind and could sign him for 7.5 million. I assume if they don't renew he is a free agent.

Based on his chronic back problems, and his limitations (cant hit lefties well, is slow, can only DH or play 1B) I am guessing he was never in the Jays plans for 2015.

So, in order to pull off the trade for Estrada, did the Jays first come to terms with the Brewers, then exercise their option to re-sign Lind for the 7.5M, and then trade him?
In other words, wouldn't they be sure they had a deal before they agree to re-sign the option year?

The Brewers had to have wanted him pretty bad, as they must have figured he was going to be a FA, and as such, they could have got him for less than 7.5M based on his health and other things noted above. Why not wait until the Jays opt out? Thoughts?

Oh well, we did good on the salary difference and also lucked out that Melky would not re-sign.

The Jays had an option. Pretty sure they traded him to Milwaukee, who then activated the option.

did SMOAK run over gibby's dog or something

why is he not in the lineup again? he's *literally* our best hitter vs lefties.

yeah sure it's only 13 PA, but maybe give him moar?

I have been saying trade EE now. Minny could use a big bat. We can handle 1b/DH with Smoak, Martin in some games when not catching, Valencia, Colabello....

EE's hamstring is not acting up now, so good time to try and get some pitching help.

I know you need consent for a 10/5 player, but being too good, or perceived as too good is a good reason to trade him.

If he was no good what would we get for him??

chris sale with a nine mile wide strike zone tonight

Smoak doesn't exactly have a track record of being good, and Colabello's entire history of success is pretty babip driven. Trading EE is bad, and that's why it didn't happen before he got 10-and-5. Talk of an EE trade is bordering on tarding up the thread.

Yep. LOL@ trading EE both in terms of the asset he represents and the failure to recognize MLB's realities. Will say though that While Cola's run isn't sustainable, his BABIP's are historically really high, so wouldn't be surprised if he at least continues some of hte trend.

I'm not going to begin to pretend like I know how to calculate xbabip, but he's line drives in a pretty astonishing 27% of batted balls, which would be top-10 among qualified hitters if he qualified, and there's definitely a high correlation between LD% and babip. If I had to guess (i.e. eye-test), I'd say that he performs better than average against the shift as well, between liners and going the other way. So yeah, he seems like a 31-year-old higher than normal babip guy without any reliable sample of that being at all true.

Edit- I think we still need to regress that LD% pretty significantly given that his LD% in MIN over ~twice the PA's is half his 2015 rate.
