I really think the Jays can survive this if the starters can start pitching up to expectation, and Bautista and Edwin start hitting for ave and power.

We not only to need get a good fielding 250 ave shortstop, though, we need to get 2nd base shored up.

Lawrie at 3B, Izturis at 2B, EMILIOOOOOOOOO at SS.

YOLO.

no one's gonna trade us a shortstop unless we massively overpay.

Looking at the injury, the worst is a broken ankle, possibly a severe sprain (not a high ankle). severe sprains are 2-3 weeks usually.

The angle of the ankle suggests a break is more likely than a sprain. (When you roll your ankle it is nearly impossible to break it, but when it goes the other direction like in this case, a break can be a likely occurrence) From what my Kinesiology friend told me a while ago.

Achilles tears and high ankle sprains are not really a possibility.

Twittersphere was suggesting Reyes tore ligaments last night and could be out up to 3 months. Again, worth a grain of salt, but that's what I was seeing today.

Was at the bar last night, whole place went dead silent when Jose was rolling around in pain. **** man, so frustrating.

Obviously a large number of ligaments were torn, but I've never heard of a standard (non high ankle) sprain being 3 months, I think 4 weeks is the pretty much the maximum.

edit: According to wiki and the video he probably suffered an Eversion type of sprain which is really rare as opposed to the normal inversion. I guess 3 months is possible in that case, but I haven't seen it happen too often in sports.

Sorry to get hopes up, thought there were only two types of sprains, high ankle and inversion. Didn't know about the third kind.

No, reread my last post about inversion sprains and eversion sprains. Quite often you get a break instead of a sprain in an eversion scenario, but the sprains suffered are also much worse. I was unaware that there was a big difference (or even one at all) between eversion and inversion sprains other than the possibility of a bone break. Apparently eversion sprains can take a long time to heal, up to 6 months depending on the severity. High ankle sprains are when the ankle gets forced forward and can linger even longer than that.

For clarification purposes, Brett Lawrie will be playing 2B for the D-Jays today. That was not a typo.
