Jays drop their spring training opener to the Yanks 6-1. Cecil gets the nod and makes it through two innings, striking out four. Very little to report on the offensive front, with only 4 hits.

Oh yeah, and some guy named A-Rod delivered a two-run shot in his first at-bat!

In other news, Wells believes he will be back earlier than month prognosis.

Cecil + Richmond put up good numbers in their battle for the 4,5 starter position. Jannseen might not be 100% since his shoulder surgery since almost 80% of pitchers with his surgery, dont come back like the past.

Snider was inches away in game 1 from a hr, he hit one today, can't wait to see him in a full season in the majors. Hopefully he can do .280 25hr 90rbis this year.. that be sick

Also we have a bunch of decent bullpen arms, with frasor camp and wolfe fighting for last spot in the pen. Personally I hope we trade BJ Ryan for 2 decent prospects then move league into closer, since we have too many good arms in the pen.

I'd like to see League be the Ward to Ryans Henke tbh.

If our starters can retire comfortably after 7 innings, we have a great chance at finishing games strong with a solid 1-2 closing combination of League and Ryan imo.

Even 6 innings would be ok - considering the strength of our bullpen. (im not a huge Wolfe fan tbh)

I think Accardo gets a shot at closer first if BJ is gone. He did pretty well when BJ went down, and I still think League is too erratic and inconsistent.

Agree that trading BJR would be preferable.

Agree also, but his contract is an albatross, especially in the current climate.

I actually think Orlando Cabrera would be a decent fit for the Jays. He certainly has the speed to lead off, and the Jays haven't had a true leadoff hitter since Devon White left.

R Romero had 6 walks in 1 1/3 innings today, wtf, so much for him finishing last year off good. Cecil been pitching good in 2 innings vs phillies.

I'm not too pumped about this rumour. He's a "decent fit" in the sense that Ricciardi has left this team in a pretty dire SS situation, but the prospect of O-Cab's .322 OBP in the lead-off spot is kind of grim, despite his speed. He didn't have a great time with the SBs last year anyway, going 19-6. I'd hate it if we had to give up a number-one pick, but if not, sure.

Almost anything is an improvement over Marco Scutaro.

Looks like Cabrera goes to the Athletics. I've heard rumors of Bobby Crosby to the Padres now.

Snider is looking great so far in the spring. He shouldn't be hitting 9th come the regular season. Barajas will hold that spot.

Some of the pitchers are looking alright as well. Janssen seems to be off to a good start. Cecil has been pretty solid, as has Mills. Clement supposedly hasn't looked good. Looks like the 4 and 5 spots will be Janssen and probably Richmond unless he screws up, though I'd personally like to see Cecil or Mills get the spot. There should be some depth in Triple A, in any event. The pitching situation might not be as bad as everyone is thinking. Will certainly be better than the Ohka/Zambrano/Towers year, that's for damned sure.

Sadly, not a lot happening on the Jays front recently down in Dunedin. Jays sitting at 8-7, not that it really matters. Yankees and Rays are a couple of games ahead, while the Red Sox and O's are a couple behind.

• Team total of 4 SB in 16 games
• Cecil, Maroth, Bush have all been sent down to minor-league camp

What's the rotation looking like these days? Halladay, Litsch, Purcey, Richmond, and ... ?

On a more personal note, I'm extremely please to see that the Jays signed 2009 World Baseball Classic star and Netherlands close Leon Boyd to a minor league contract.

I played ball with Boyd during high school and I follow his blog regularly. End weak brag. Anyone have an idea where someone of his age and talent will start the season off? He's been assigned directly to minor league camp, but if you followed the Dutch team at all during the WBC, you'd have noticed he struck out Hanley Ramirez, David Wright and Ryan Braun in his four appearances.

It is looking like the rotation will be Halladay, Litsch, Purcey, Mills and Richmond. They're very high on Mills. I don't see what the big deal is with Richmond. Looking at his stats from every level... they're unimpressive to say the least. Clement will possibly squeak into the rotation. There's a good chance Janssen will be in there by May if any of the bottom 2 guys falter.

I doubt Boyd will start at Triple A or anything. A ball perhaps with the possibility to move up quickly if he does well, but that's just a total guess on my part.

Janssen should try a new approach to his pitching, intentionally walking every batter and then picking them off of 1st (not that I think he is a bad pitcher, just that his move is by far and away the best I've ever seen from a righty if not lefties too)

The #4-5 starter spots are gonna change alot during the season, I'd be surprised if the 4 and 5 that start with the team last more then a month before someone from Vegas comes into the mix.

Most definitely. Cecil and probably Romero will be starting at some point during the season, as will Janssen.

I really hope Clement gets the 5th spot, but it's looking less and less that way.

PS why the **** didn't they get rid of Bautista (saving 2.4 mil) and sign Ivan Rodriguez?
