Trade doesnt do much imo, since beeston has said the jays will spend (130-150$ mill?) when the time is right(for last 3 years). So dumping the salary doesnt mean that much to the team.
the time would only be right in 4 years time, when VW isn't taking up 1/3rd of the payroll. Getting rid of Vernon allows the time to be right a lot sooner.
Sorry if I worded it wrong....
But do you honestly expect them to spend ~80 million more(annually) in the next year or two..When they were willing to add 50 more million annually "When the time is right(with wells on roster)"
If we sign pujols, fielder, & trade for hernandez in 2012, then I am obviously wrong.
I think you're crazy.
I'm pretty sure AA has pitched the idea of value for money. If he can get rid of a waste moneywise then why not do it so that later on when he asks ownership "hey we are 1 or 2 pieces away let me sign this A Rod guy for 10 years $250 million" they will be like oh for sure, if you think thats what it takes.
saving $80 million now is like $90 million value wise 2 years for now. AA is a Rogers employee and he is doing his job well which is to maximize Rogers' value. Operating on a budget is a silly business plan for a sports team and AA knows that. It is by far better to maximize value, if you need to spend the money then you do it to increase the value of your team. Throwing away money and draft picks on a 1 or 2 year player only hurts the long term value of the franchise unless you can continue to do that year after year.'
edit: sorry if I sound idiotic, I am drunk and don't care to reread my post
- They believe in Aaron Cibia
- They get a guy they can easily offer arbitration to for more picks, if they don't trade him in July.
- They save more money and all of the money for 2012
- Vlad?
Also, it's worth bearing in mind that AA seems to really value defense, or he thinks that he is better at valuing it than others. Maybe he thinks that Napoli's ownage on offense was severely undermined by his purported defensive limitations.
Beeston from the seasons ticket holder meeting tonight...
In response to one question on player spending and the need for a salary cap, Beeston said he envisioned the Blue Jays one day spending US$140-$150 million on its payroll.
Buster Olney reporting that the Jays may be the third team in the Figgins-to-A's deal, with Kouzmanoff potentially coming here. Maybe for Frasor? Do the M's need bullpen arms?
Jays avoid arbitration with a couple of their relievers, Jason Frasor and Frank Francisco:

Tercet, after all the times you blamed Cito for starting Buck over Arencibia down the stretch and all the times you refused to acknowledge the decision may have come from the front office, I really hope you'll read this article. You might actually learn something.
