Wow, awesome news. I liked Vernon but he was never going to live up to that contract. Helloooooooooo payroll flexibility.

I'm going to miss Wells. As much as moving his contract was the right move, he's basically been the face of this team for almost the last ten years.

Vernon Wells was like a perfect player off the field. Super humble, involved in the community and genuinely seemed to love the team/city. I'm kinda sad to see that gone, it's too bad he had one of the worst contracts in baseball.

You guys have the best GM in sports imo. I really wish they would eliminate divisions so Toronto could compete for a playoff spot, it's not that unlikely that Toronto could be fielding the fourth best team in the AL East and the entire American League in upcoming seasons. (And yeah, I know it's been like this forever.)

Yeah, if his contract was reasonable he would be great to have on your team as a fan. But being financially reasonable is an absolute must for the Jays.

I just hope they don't overpay on Bautista coming off a career year now.

Got to thinking about how we might end up spending some of this money we suddenly have. Looking over the list of free agents after this year (link) though, I can't say I see all that much I'd be excited about investing in.

We could conceivably become players for Prince Fielder (I'm guessing neither Pujols or AGon is within our reach. Frankly, I don't think we'll want to pay what it'll cost to get Prince out of Boras' hands.), or try to bring back Chris Carpenter for a couple of years to mentor the kids on the staff, but otherwise, I'm not seeing a whole lot of potential for big splashes there. Anyone know where I'd find a similar list for 2013?

Apparently the Rays may have signed both Damon and Ramirez. For sure they're finishing behind the Jays in 2011.

With not having to pay the remaining 84 million of Wells contract the Jays should cut ticket prices in half to get the stadium full.
I am really wondering about how much buzz the Jays will have around them this year. I think they can draw pretty well, slightly better than last year despite losing Wells, Gaston and Marcum. A lot of fans know that this team is finally headed in the right direction and want to be there for it even if we struggle to finish over .500 this season.
