Thinking about getting an Arnsberg jersey, but I may go for Tenace instead
If I saw someone wearing an Arnsberg jersey, a Tenace jersey, or better yet, a Butterfield jersey, I would say to myself, "Wow, that swell gentleman is a student of the game"!

Great effort by the bullpen today. Hopefully Richmond can eat up enough innings to give some of them a rest tomorrow.

a_k,

IIRC, both Wells and Rios tried to hit him in without showing squeeze once.

Also, I don't think tercet has yet reported to the spankees thread.

I'll be nice to them, Wang blew the game, but yea the pen sucked it up too. The Yankees pen will blow many games this season, tons of time for me to ridicule them and to argue with the stubborn Triumph.

Richmond isn't pitching tomorrow. Romero is and then Halladay after the day off on Tuesday. Richmond is missing his spot due to the day off, though if Romero leaves the game early, I could see Richmond coming in in relief as the pen is pretty weary.

Snider probably ain't playing Sunday. There's a lefty on the mound for Oakland.

On a lot of teams the 8th inning guy is better than the closer. If he's succeeding where he is, leave him there.

I am in a closer pickle and someone is trying to rake me over the coals for a second good one, which i feel Downs will be (already have him) if they just give up on Ryan. Thanks for any info...
Within the realm of possibilty, but certainly unlikely.

QFT.

Downs might be the best setup man in the bigs, I'm dead serious. Cito knows better than to eff with that for the time being.

Frasor gets the promotion before Downs imo.

Doc --> Downs --> Frasor --> win

ez game.

I'm really not trying to stir things up, but I don't get the love for Frasor. Not only is he one of the worst options in the pen, but he's absolutely dreadful in high-pressure situations.

If BJ struggles enough where he has to be booted from the closer role (knock on wood), Downs should get the first crack. Yes he is succeeding in what he's doing but the guy is an amazing reliever and I have every reason to believe that he would perform well (and perform the best of all relievers not named BJ) in a closing role. Why not give the best reliever the ball in the most demanding, highest-pressure situations?

I know I've argued this before but last time it just kind of tailed off...help me out here.

Downs is our best relief pitcher, but Ryan is the closer. Unless any injury happens or there is a complete and total blow-up, I wouldn't expect this to change. That's not to say Downs wouldn't do as well if the roles were reversed (and I'm sure everyone would probably feel more comfortable if he was the closer), but B.J. Ryan is not going to be paid $12,000,000 to be a situational lefty or an 8th-inning guy.

Downs is a worthwhile fantasy pickup even if he is not the closer. Moderate K's, excellent ERA and WHIP. He'll get you the occasional win in late relief and a couple of ad-hoc saves, but don't expect him to take over for Ryan anytime soon.

I put a lot of thought into selecting an appropriate icon for this thread, and I think we all know the sad face probably is the best choice to represent the Blue Jays.

With good reason, it was not the time to attempt a squeeze since the pitcher was highly likely going to pitch around them to set up a force out situation with the bases loaded against Lind. If they were up with the bases juiced with 1 out then I would be all for the squueze situation.
Also, since Rios and Wells have probably not bunted the ball in 6+ years their bunting skills may be a little rusty.
