kinda off topic, but does anyone else follow the GAA on facebook? They have gotten bad about spamming status updates during games lately.

extra hate or w/e it makes no sense to continue starting drew*. is he better than marshall right now-- obv, but he also still not that good and more importantly is highly likely at or near his ceiling. if it hasn't clicked already it's prob not happening. i think the problem is that he's not really a pg in terms of mindset/feel/decision making regardless of w/e technical skills he possesses

edit:

* or to continue giving a large % of the min. 75/25 doesn't do much more for us now and marshall can be getting minutes for the future. should roughly be 50/50 imo.

also yes drew is a good defender, but unfortunately his offensive responsibilities are significantly more important. so on the one hand it's unfair not to note his defensive contributions more often, but on the other we would be better if it were the reverse

i don't get why he's such an awful shooter
his stroke doesn't look bad

This sums it up pretty well.

The team has always fed off of the demeanor and ability of the PG since Roy arrived. Add to the fact that in the half court we're basically are playing 4 on 5 because LD2 commands no attention due to his inability to hit shots or simply just take them. Only taking 11% of the shots while he's out there. 30% from 2 pt range? His #s don't lie. Drew is the worst starting PG in the history of UNC flat out. I never thought I would see Adam Boone and Brian Morrison topped but along came Drew.

He has no confidence in himself. Watch him shoot a 2pt shot. He literally is trying to flick the ball out of his hand as quick as possible instead of following through.

His shot is really weird in that he obviously has the ability and has good form. I think it's a confidence issue as much as anything else at this point.

I know I sound like I'm blindly defending Drew and I do want to clarify things. I think Marshall should be playing more than he is currently. Something like a 50/50 split or even a 60/40 split for Drew would be better than now.

With that said, I will continue to feel that both this thread and IC blames Drew for everything that goes wrong with this team when he's simply one of several issues rather than the issue.

Also, FWIW Drew played extremely well last night. I think a decent amount of his problems are in his head so hopefully it's a step in the right direction.

But you are blindly defending him. There's been a college paper's worth of stats and information posted in here pointing to him being awful, and your only real support has been that he's a 'good defender' (which btw, is an ambiguous term often applied to players who suck but shouldn't) and had a good game versus a bad team.

I'm not trying to pile on you, I'm simply pointing out that everyone associated with UNC basketball should realize the onus on them is to correct glaring errors in rotation and team management. It shouldn't be 60/40 or 50/50. It should be Marshall starting and LD2 playing the role of a servicable back-up/8th or 9th man type. He's done nothing to show he's capable of playing with first units in the ACC and Marshall's upside is pretty apparant.

This would never ever happen in the NBA, and if it did, the coach/team would be ripped to shreds by fans/posters.

Drew deserves a much higher % of blame for UNC's failures over the last 2 years than any other player, so he's getting the most blame. Not to mention the PG is such a big role in this offense, and you can't be tentative/unskilled in UNC offense.

Zeller and Henson are turning in to an awesome frontcourt to watch. Zeller gone from maybe my least favorite UNC player in recent memory to a guy that's really easy to root for. Complete transformation for him as a player from last year.

Barnes is frustrating, but I think the team only benefits if he takes on a greater offensive load, mostly attacking the basket and playing MUCH more physical. He's still a problem or two fixed away from being our best player. He should be locked in a room and forced to watch Andre Iguodala tapes for a day or so. It'd help him a lot imo

this was my dad's take.

re: min distribution i don't think marshall is far enough along that he should be getting 30 mpg to drew's 10, although i think i'd prefer that to the reverse

I seriously would love to know what Roy's obsession with California players is? Yeah he hit it big with Jacque Vaughn and Paul Pierce way back in the day, but ffs all of his major stud ball players since then have came from the east coast or Midwest. After Quentin Thomas and LD2, I sure hope it's a long while before he goes after a PG from out there and pansies like the Wears again. Deon Thompson was solid enough though

there is talent in cali that often goes somewhat undiscovered (i know bc found craig smith and jared dudley out there but dont follow recruiting enough to know much else) so i like the idea/effort but my guess is roy goes after the kids at the hs that produce a lot of college bball talent and is thus missing out a bit on the high upside guys that are off lots of people's radar
