Fascinating article hinting at Pujols' thoughts on management:

preview:

"Everybody knew last year if we would have another key bat or guy in the bullpen we would have been there," Pujols says about an 86-76 fourth-place team that finished four games behind the wild-card Brewers. "The year before it was the same way. If we had a guy to help us when (Scott) Rolen and Jimmy (Edmonds) went down, I think we would have had a shot.

After opening the third inning with a fly out, Pujols returned to the Cardinals clubhouse to review video. There he predicted to assistant hitting coach Mike Aldrete that his next at-bat would ricochet off the yet-to-open Royals Hall of Fame behind the visitors bullpen in left field. "He didn't say he might hit the Hall of Fame. He said he would hit the Hall of Fame," Aldrete recalled.

Pujols returned in the fourth inning against Royals starting pitcher Gil Meche with the bases loaded and one out in a 4-4 game. Pujols and Meche reached a full count. By then Meche had shown Pujols every pitch in his repertoire except a change-up. When Meche finally threw the pitch, Pujols swatted it some 423 feet off a Hall of Fame window.

If Pujols faced Lidge with the bases loaded would the baseball universe explode?

Yeah 100 pitch complete games usually work out well.

Now if somebody can take our trash (Wellemyer).

So we're back to the point where if the pitching gives up two or more runs we take an auto loss. Bring back the crappy opponents please we can't beat teams that have a winning record.

MLBtraderumors is reporting we are pursuing Holliday. The rumored package is Ludwick, one of Perez/Motte/McClellan, and a prospect. We would also take on the remainder of Holliday's salary.

If we could extend Holliday's contract it would be a no-brainer, but he will certainly test free agency as a Boras client. Would you guys pull the trigger?

Thats giving up an awful lot, mainly in the form of all those relievers are young MLB quality arms. I don't see any reason to throw in a prospect we already getting ganked with the first two parts of the deal.

Probably needs to be done though our crappy outfield has become as dire of a need as 3rd base is. I think we'd have a decent chance of resigning him. He would likely at least let us match his best offer in FA. Ofcourse, management would have to be willing to write that check.

Edit: I'd be pushing Motte at them by the way. We gonna be losing one of these relievers in any trade we make. It's the one thing we got that everybody else wants.

Not an absolute certainty. Loshe signed without doing so last year. Holiday has been the subject of trade rumors for as long as i can remember. Slim chance he'd be willing to sign a fair long term deal and hit behind the best player in baseball for the next 6 years.
