The Wooden Legacy joined with DirecTV to sponsor the tournament. Last year the Aztecs played UCLA in the Wooden Classic in Anaheim and I believe UCLA was always involved previous to this year when it was either 1 game or part of a doubleheader. Now that it is a full blown 8 team tourney I don't think you can expect UCLA to be in it every year.

Hopefully you got to go to the game last night. Real entertaining. USD never gave up and damn near pulled it out at the end. Midget point guard had a great game for the Toreros and his side kick Johnny Dee seemingly couldn't miss from 3 point land. I'm just glad State got out of there with a W.

Next up Washington on Sunday @ noon. I'll be there.

That game almost gave me a heart attack. Glad Thames stepped up and hit his free throws. This team has had enough moral victories and now they have a signature win.

Awesome game yesterday. I'm not exaggerating when I say it was the biggest non-conference road win in school history. Win over Gonzaga a few years back was big for the West Coast and they beat Arizona in Tuscon when the Wildcats were struggling. Thumping UCLA last year in Anaheim was sweet but I can honestly say yesterday was sweeter. Even if Kansas isn't their usual beast self it is still a real big deal to roll into the Phog and come out with a W.

Aztec defense is legit. Spencer is a fly swatter inside (6 blocks yesterday) and Davis is a beast on the glass. Offensively they are, well, offensive at times. O'Brien's shooting percentage has been horrific. I think his hand injury still hasn't healed. Davis takes some of the ugliest looking shots I've ever seen. Sheppard dribbled the ball out of bounds off of body parts as many times as he put the ball in the hole yesterday. Spencer should never take a shot more than 2 feet from the rim. Thank God for Thames.

Lost in the euphoria over beating Kansas was the road win over CSU to open the conference slate. Road wins are huge in the MWC. Next up Boise at home on Wednesday. Boise has a nice squad (picked to finish ahead of the Aztecs in the MWC preseason poll) and is more guard oriented on offense which SDSU does not defend as well. Should be a good one. Hope the Aztecs don't have a let down after the KU win.

For only the 2nd time in school history the Aztecs are ranked #5 (or higher) in the country. Do I believe SDSU is the 5th best team in the country? No, I do not. I would not be surprised if they lose a couple of games between now and the conference tourney and when they do they will drop 5-10 spots and everybody can say they were a fraud.

Having said that, this team is capable of making a run in March. Excellent Senior G. Good rebounding. Excellent defense. The one drawback, and it is significant, is their shooting. Other than Thames, if they don't get 2nd chance points or transition points they are in trouble. They really need to shoot better to be an Elite 8 (or better) team.

Great win @ Utah St on Saturday. Logan is a really tough place to get a W but the Aztecs pulled it out. With about 5 minutes to go I wasn't feeling confident at all but this team just doesn't give up. Ridiculous stat department: SDSU has won 16 of their last 17 OT games. Luck box or skill?

Indeed! Only word for this game is WOW. Down 14 with 13 minutes to play. Just kept chipping away. Finally started playing some defense. Thames put the team on his back and then Polee with the dagger.

CBS Bracketology has the Aztecs as a 1 seed. I don't see that at all. Even if they sweep the conference, which I still think is highly unlikely, I don't think the MWC is strong enough this year for their champion to be a 1.

With a chance to set a school record 21st win in a row the Aztecs played their worst game of the year by far. Thames had an awful game (3-16, 0-8 on 3's) but I don't want to blame him because without him SDSU wouldn't be on the radar. The Aztec defense was HORRIBLE last night. Wyo was 17-26 on 2's, mostly dunks on blown coverages. Between that and 13 Aztec TO's it was amazing SDSU was in the game at all with 2 minutes to go. If it wasn't for a horse **** foul call on a drive with the shot clock running out the Aztecs would have had the ball, down 4, with over a minute to go.

Oh well. I was waiting for the inevitable conference loss and now we'll see how far SDSU falls. Just have to bounce back on Saturday and start a new streak.

That was a good old fashioned beat down at The Pit. UNM was clearly the better team last night.

Teams have figured out that if you take Thames out of the game the Aztecs don't have another guy that can step in and fill the scoring void. In his last 4 games starting with the loss @ Wyo, Thames is 7-32 from inside the arc and 3-18 from 3 pt land. That is simply unacceptable for a guy that was the favorite for the conference player of the year based on his play up until that point. If Thames and the coaches don't figure out a way to get out of this slump it is going to be a quick exit from the tourney.

3 games before the rematch with the Lobos to end the regular season. SJST @ home, @ Fres and @ UNLV. Have to get it together starting this Tuesday.

Revenge was sweet. I still can't believe SDSU came from 16 down with 12 minutes to play. AMAZING!

C'mon, Uncle Teddy is an icon in SD. He's grown on me. I used to despise him. Maybe I've mellowed with age. Ted was in Philly when I went to school in Delaware so I've watched & listened to him for 35+ years.

Almost another great comeback. Down 7 with 2:34 left the Aztecs took the lead with 1:21 to go. It came down to 1 possession and Williams hit a long (and I mean long) 3 to ice it.

Just a horribly refereed game (both ways). 30 fouls in the 2nd half. Seriously? Then with the game on the line with less than a minute to go they swallow their whistles on a drive by Polee and a 3 pointer by Thames.

Pretty nervous about the bracket today. Hopefully this loss won't hurt and SDSU will still get a 3 in the West. I'd even rather get a 4 in the West than a 3 somewhere else. I'm Jonesing for another trip to Anaheim!

If they play in Anaheim I'll be there for sure, I'm just hoping to avoid the dreaded 5 vs 12 matchup. Thames is really going to be missed next season, been a joy to watch him grow into the leaded he is today.

I went out to Viejas for the bracket show. Pretty cool. Band, cheerleaders, players, Coach Fisher. Probably 500+ fans showed up. As soon as New Mexico was announced as a #7 I knew the best SDSU could hope for was a #4. No respect for the MWC which is understandable. Place then went wild when the Aztecs came up #4 in the West. I think everybody felt that staying in the West was a very good thing.

Every game is tough now but I like the match up with NM St. They have a lot of size (7'-5" 360 lb center. Holy ****!) up front but are small in the back court and turn the ball over a lot. Normally I wouldn't want to play a team with so much size but these guys look pretty immobile. One game at a time. Just win.

A lot more difficult than it needed to be. It looked like things were under control at the start of the 2nd half but then the Aztecs seemed to lose focus. Really can't explain it. At least they moved on.

For the 2nd year in a row the only thing standing between SDSU and a Sweet 16 berth is a double digit seed. Once again the entire country will be rooting against the Aztecs. Hopefully there will be a different result this year. Anaheim or bust!
