Aztecs charter a plane for only the second time since Fisher has been there and it takes them 20 hours to get to Laramie. It doesn't matter as once again SDSU dominates in the second half to score a nice road win.

p.s. How do we go about getting a name change for the thread? Some suggestions: 'Fisher-Men'...'The Show'...'Even we're surprised we're ranked this high'...'No longer Gay (Not that there's anything wrong with that)'...

Wow. That was craptastic. Always tough to win on the road in conference but the Aztecs weren't even competitive. CSU shot lights out and SDSU couldn't have hit water if they fell out of a boat. Rahon was terrible. I can see a precipitous drop in the rankings. A couple of home games this week vs Boise and TCU should help right the ship but this is the type of team that can't be overconfident against anybody. They win by outworking people so it will be interesting to see how they react to the ass plowing they received yesterday.

2 home wins this week although they should have lost vs Boise on Wednesday. Broncos had a wide open 3 at the buzzer FTW. It went in 'n out, heartbreak for the Broncos. Aztecs were once again ice cold and were very lucky to emerge with a W. SDSU played much better last night against TCU. They shot over 50% from the floor and had the game in hand following a nice run at the end of the first half. A week off and then UNLV at Thomas & Mack next Saturday. My son is going to be in Vegas and is going to the game. Very jealous.

About 10 minutes to tip off. Just got a text from my son as he was entering the enemies lair. He has the Aztecs +10. SDSU gets no respect. I kind of understand it because if you watch them play they don't seem to be doing anything impressive but somehow they win.

Got killed on the offensive boards (which has been par for the course this season) but yet they still had the lead & the ball with less than a minute to play! Terrible non-call that should have put Franklin at the line with 13 sec left down by 1. Home court and all, but still.

All in all a great game and a great comeback by the Aztecs. What they lack in size they make up for with hustle & grit.

Mike Moser (UNLV) is a stud.

Aztecs +1 @ home tonight vs Lobos for conference lead. UNLV inexplicably blew an 18 pt 2nd half lead last night @ TCU to open the door for tonight's winner. Should be a good one.

It was good for a while. Tied at 38 early in the 2nd half, Aztecs miss a 3 pointer, UNM reels off 13 in a row to pretty much seal it. SDSU cut it to 6 with 2 minutes to go but Shelton missed a lay up and that was it. I'm more than a little worried that State may be wearing down. They aren't a deep team and their starters play a lot of minutes.

It sucked to see Drew Gordon tearing up the Aztecs in a Lobo uniform. His dad, Eddy Gordon, was a stud for SDSU back in the early 80's. Drew's choice was down to UNM or SDSU when he was transferring from UCLA. The Aztecs could use a banger like him up front.

Lose to Air Force. WTF. No Franklin (ankle sprain) obviously hurt but you still have to win this game. Down to #25 in one poll I saw. Arghh. Season slipping away.

2 home wins last week. Squeak by in OT vs Wyoming on Wednesday and a nice win Saturday over Colorado St. Road games this week vs Boise and TCU before the conference tournament the following week. 3 way tie at the top thanks to TCU ripping New Mexico. This conference has become extremely competitive.

Despite being ranked in the top 20 I do not think the Aztecs are a lock for an NCAA bid. If they win their last 2 road games I think they get in. If they split and get to the conference tourney final I think they get in. If they lose both road games they better win the conference tourney or else it will be a long day on Selection Sunday.

Season salvaged! 2 road wins: blowout at Boise and come from ahead OT win at TCU (go ahead and give me a heart attack Aztecs). If they flame out in the conference tourney I can see SDSU being a #8. If they win it I can see a #6 and anything in between probably gets them a #7.

Another heart stopper! JFC nothing comes easy for this team. Built up a nice lead with about 6 min to play and then they need a buzzer beater to win. Franklin is a stud!

Some discussion locally on whether the Aztecs should just tank tonight's game and get an extra day of rest since their seeding is probably already set. I don't agree. Come with your 'A' game and let the chips fall where they may.

The 2nd half yesterday was some of the best basketball the Aztecs have played in quite some time. Title game today vs UNM! The Lobos are really playing well so this is going to be a tough match-up. Aztecs need to shoot well, protect the ball and limit 2nd chance opportunities by UNM. I can't wait!

Despite shooting 5 for 21 to open the game the Aztecs were up 17-4. The Lobos fought back to cut the lead to 26-22 early in the 2nd half but SDSU pulled away after that and cruised to an easy victory. Congrats to the Aztecs on winning the regular season title and the conference tournament. The women got the job done...

...as for the men's team: they sucked! Rahon 0-8 and Thames 1-6 from the floor. Tough to win like that. A late run made it semi respectable but this game was all New Mexico. Congrats to UNM. They were clearly the better team today.

One of my favorite days of the year today...Selection Sunday! Some of the brackets I've seen have the Aztecs as high as a #5 and as low as a #7. I think they deserve a #7. My #1's would be Kentucky, Syracuse. Missouri and North Carolina.

So the Aztecs get a #6 in the Midwest vs NC St on Friday in Columbus. I thought the Wolfpack might actually be favored and it looks like they opened -1 and are now -2. This is a very even game statistically. It should come down to the wire which is par for the course in Aztec games. I'd have rather had UNLV's draw and played Colorado but it is what it is.

Wolfpack was the better team. Great second half by Tapley but this was the worst defensive game the Aztecs played all year. They just couldn't handle NC St inside.

The big negatives for SDSU this year were size & depth and both of those will be addressed with the red shirts and frosh coming in.

yeah, tough to win when the opp shoot 59%.

good season, they did better than expected. and fisher will build on this and they'll be better next yr.

by the way, crappy results for the Mountain West, 1-3 with UNLV and SDSU losing as 6's v 11.

Very psyched for this season. Open with a couple of exhibition games before taking on Syracuse on the USS Midway on Nov. 9th. I don't think I'd be out of line by saying this is the best roster the Aztecs have ever had. They may not have the top end talent of Kawhi Leonard but they have quality players up and down the roster. 4 starters back from last year (Tapley, Franklin,Thames are solid) but I highly doubt if James Rahon starts this year (he was better off the bench in the Sweet 16 run anyway). James Johnson (UVA transfer) won't be eligible until fall grades post but once he can take the court it will give SDSU a big body inside. Looking forward to seeing Dwayne Polee (St. John's transfer) and some of these highly touted frosh like Winston Shepard and Skylar Spencer at power forward. It may take some time for this team to come together but by the time the conference schedule comes around I expect great things.

Aztecs regular season tickets are sold out. What a turn around under Fisher. I'm hoping to go to a game over Christmas break when the students are out of town. Oldie but goodie to get further amped: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8hmL9q3QDM

Playing on an aircraft carrier to start the season is one of those ideas that sound great in theory but sucks in practice. 2 games cancelled on the East Coast and this one postponed from Friday because of rain. They finally got to play yesterday. It was bright and sunny but the wind made any shot outside of 10 feet an adventure.

As for the game itself, Syracuse was clearly the better team. Their size enabled them to contest every Aztec shot (blocking 10). They were also able to get inside and shoot higher percentage shots. I liked Coach Fisher's quote after the game: "I don't know how good Syracuse is or is going to be. I know one thing. They're not going to get any shorter".

Aztecs were 1-19 from 3 pt land and 14-33 from the free throw line. I hope the wind was the main factor...Rahon did indeed come off the bench and played pretty well. I think he is more comfortable in this role and will have a good season...JJ O'Brien started and played 31 minutes. Polee came off the bench and played 5 minutes. The hierarchy of the 2 transfers is much different than what I expected...As for the 2 highly touted freshman, Shepard got 21 minutes off the bench while Spencer only got 3 so it's pretty obvious who Fisher has more confidence in right now...Thames 0 turnovers and 5 steals.

Next up, a cupcake (San Diego Christian) then a road game at Missouri St which should be a good test.

Nice road win at USC last night. It might not look good on paper to only beat USC by 6 but Chase Tapley missed the game with an injury and Stephens got hurt 5 minutes into the game and didn't return. Suddenly depth, which was going to be a strong point this year, became a glaring weakness. Aztecs bolted out to a 19 point lead but then slowly wore down and SC cut the lead to 12 at the half. The Trojans came out flying in the 2nd half and took the lead with 13 minutes to play. It was a back and forth game for about ten minutes until the Aztecs finally pulled away with about 3 minutes left thanks to a flagrant foul on SC that gave SDSU 4 FT's and the ball. James Rahon was awesome in relief of Tapley: 6-7 from the floor including 3-3 from 3 pt land. UCLA up next on Saturday in Anaheim. Don't be surprised if Aztec fans take over Honda Center. I'd love to go but I have to work. Some pretty amazing facts: SDSU has won 25 straight vs Cali schools and 10 in a row vs Pac 10 schools.

I also have to give major props to the Aztec football team. Co-champion of the conference, 9-3 overall, beat Boise on the road. Great season! Rocky Long deserves a lot of credit. Accepted a bowl bid today to play BYU in the Poinsettia Bowl.

Now that the Big East is totally falling apart the rumors are getting stronger that SDSU may be going to the Big 12. Please let this be true.

Tapley should be ready for UCLA on Saturday. Stephens, I'm not so sure.

78-69 SDSU. Stephens starts (And excels. He has REALLY improved from last year). Tapley off the bench puts in 9 pts. Full front page in the SD Union sports section: "Kings of Cali".

Xavier Thames star of the game: 19 pts and 5-6 on 3's. Most interesting development was Fisher had 6'8" frosh Shepard bringing the ball up and running the offense when he was in. He is still very raw in this role and made some (a lot) mistakes. By the end of the year and going forward this may be genius.

As expected 'The Show' took over Honda Center. 75-80% Aztec fans. Great pic of the UCLA student section (the empty seats at the far end of the arena):

Bruin coach Howland said: "It was like playing a road game wearing a white jersey".

Easy stretch coming up before the Diamondhead Classic and a possible match-up with Arizona. 6'9" transfer James Johnson will be eligible by then which will bring an added inside presence.
