Well, Cain has a higher OPS.

This seems like an argument over who is better between Joe Pettini and Guy Sularz, although when I look at Kevin Frandsen, I see the second coming of Greg Litton.

Is there a documented, organizational hard-on for switch-hitters, or is this just some coincidence?

switch hitters are always the best hitters because they don't have platoon splits

I just saw this--anyone know what game it's from? would love to see the actual clip.

I don't think either Frandsen or Burris is a good shot. Hope I'm wrong about both.

The thing is that I think they both have a claim to more reps. Frandsen was great in the minors and then got jacked around in 2007, playing 5 positions, sporadically, etc. Then he got hurt, rehabbed, and appears to be ready for another look. So, he effectively has earned a look.

Burris was an emergency filler last year who gave them more than they had a right to hope and then legitimately won the job in spring training.

Hegelian Tragedy: Not a conflict of right versus wrong, but when two wrongs conflict (or something).

nothing like four one run losses in a row.

the giants currently have the worst third order w/l record in the nl.

i'm going to have to start getting drunk before the game starts from now on.

not sure what i'm more upset with...bochy deciding rowand is a leadoff man now, or that the giants managed 2 hits and 1 run in 7 vs the raiders backup RB

what scares me is that when sabean is ultimately fired (and if there's a god in heaven, it'll be after the season of winning more games than scoring runs finally ends), neukom seems to be the kind of brainless **** who would go ahead and decide someone like jim bowden should be the guy to run the franchise. or one of sabean's lemmings. or that the best way to beat the dodgers is to hire coletti

this blows

it's not my rationale. it's the rationale of people who are a lot smarter than you and me.

When I was younger and less cynical, I took Barbieri's rants as face value, but now they seem such a contrivance, especially when he's fellating the same front-office guys he's usually ripping during the BASHOF auction every year because they all happen to be pimping for the same PR cause.

Also, I didn't hear the interview, but he apparently questioned Tim Kawakami about injecting himself into his columns (he does) which is LOL ironic. Yeah, MBA, Sport Magazine, Bruce Jenner...how often does Barbieri bring all that up?

how the hell do you walk lincecum?

Yeah, rookie jitters. He walked a bunch in his debut despite a pretty good BB/9 rate in the minors.

Also, fyg:

Ugh wtf 109 pitches, 4-0 lead in 7th, and Timmy bats (to sacrifice).

Shutouts build street cred and HOF resumes obv.

i've heard some rumblings about cain being on the market....that can't be true, right? there's no way the giants can think they actually have enough a shot at the postseason where that is a legitimate option

I just heard on the Rangers Replay show tonight that the Giants are interested in Hank Blalock. Has anybody heard anything about this?

Also they said there was some sort of discussion of Chris Davis for Matt Cain, which obviously would include additional players on the Rangers side. Looking at some blog posts on sfgate.com I mean it looks like there is some rumors about Cain being available but it sounds like alot of speculation. Is he even available? What are the latest rumors in San Francisco?

I keep reading these rumors, and it just mystifies me...given the sorry state of the lineup, why would they trade their second-best starter? How is this even being discussed?

Thing is, unless Littlefield takes over the Cards and trades Pujols for Cain, who would you, as a fan (assuming you're a fan) be happy with, realistically? I certainly don't want Hank Blalock playing 75 games/yr.

The only thing that makes sense to me is Cain is miserable and demanding a trade behind closed doors.... But even then why San Francisco would entertain those demands is beyond me when he is tied up until the end of the 2011 season. Linecum passed on arbatration in the offseason. He's going after the big bucks when this season concludes and he's like what 50/50 at best to remain a Giant? If Seattle got involved I think it'd be an almost 0% chance.... Noah Lowry is done as a Giant most likely. If they trade Cain for a bat or even two, they still haven't solved hittting problems they have and then they'd create a bigger hole at pitching.

I guess Cain doesn't wanna be a Giant anymore, but I think if I'm San Fran I gotta get what I can out of him thru 2011 unless a young power hitter like Ryan Braun is in the discussion, which he won't be.

Offtopic makes a good point about Blalock too he's free after this year so what good is he going to do a Giants team that isn't overtaking the Dodgers and won't beat the teams out of the NL East/Central for the wild card. Although they gotta do something about that abmissal lineup.
