Ruf's been beating up on AA pitching at the age of 26. That said, he's really been pounding them the last month. Something like 19 HR in August this far.

He looks good to this point but he's old for his level and there's pretty much a consensus amongst the national scouting guys that he's unlikely to amount to much. Another Matt Rizzotti but with a little more power and a little better in the field, which is still not good enough. Or so that's what the guys who make those judgements for a living say.

Worth a look in September/Spring Training though, if just for ****s and giggles.

Jimmy Rollins is such a dog sometimes. Not close to the Hanley Ramirez level but a dog nonetheless.

Prob gonna have a ~ 3.7 fWAR season which I'm guessing is at least standard value for $11M (??)...but I'm growing tired of watching him.

3.7 fWAR would be worth more than $11m using any standard multiplier.

per WAR he is actually outperforming his 11mm$ salary on the year. Believe it or not.

Yeah I had no access to research but figured it was...that's why I said at least worth 11M

He's a plus def SS, a plus base runner and an awful lead-off hitter.

Hopefully we'll be taking Bourn off your hands this winter.

yeah that's what I thought and tdom confirmed.

I'm just over hearing TMac dejectedly say "popped up" over and over and over again.

He didn't run max effort on a popup to the pitcher. You know, like every other player in the history of baseball. Not an issue, IMO.

.
Allow me to retract this. He turns 30 this winter. He'll have his elite speed/def for what, 2 more years? Def not interested in 5/$80m or whatever he'll be commanding.

Obv they need to get away from having 32 year olds that are beyond their prime but still making $15M or more.

Easy to believe. We were spoiled for too long, people forgot just how bad the average SS is.

Better yet, sign him and send a package of him, Howard, whichever starter is oldest and run-downiest at the time, and Michael Martinez to the Dodgers in two years for a bunch of prospects.

Good to see this team is capable of playing well. Though I'll still be surprised if they reach .500.

Yeah, I'm torn.

At this point they're just getting a worse draft pick, which is dumb. And Charlie's also making some winning moves by doing things that not in the longer-term best interests of the team. For example, he PH for Dom Brown with Ty Wigginton on Tuesday in the 9th inning. That's stupid. He also sometimes uses the bullpen to see what he's got in those young kids and other times it seems like he really wants to win. It's just a weird mix of strategies.

Harold Reynolds thinks the Phillies are still in the WC race. He was completely serious.

It'd be a mortal lock if the Mets held one of the spots.

Harold is not so good with math. Unless he's talking about the 2013 WC race, in which case he's spot on.

Eh, 17.

If any combination of Cardinals wins and Phillies losses adds up to 17, they're out. Not gonna happen, IMO.

5 games

Im watching, but not expecting it to amount to anything. Too much to overcome in such a short amount of time.

Per coolstandings.com they have doubled their chances of making the playoffs with their win last night, went from a 0.7% chance to a 1.5% chance.

WORLD SERIES!!!!
