This one hurts worse than the last 2. Feel like this was our last chance to make a run at it.

Anyone second questioning beating Atlanta that last series of the year?

Also, watching the pressers. Charlie said the regular season was a "hellofa lot of fun." Well, I'm happy for him then.

I feel really bad for Raul, he's far from my favorite player And he's been frustrating to root for but he's Class act.

I feel this way too, but I wouldn't say last chance. Best chance certainly, but last chance is clearly an overreaction.

As for next year it'll be interesting to see how it will shake out. Raul is obviously gone and Oswalt won't be back. Jimmy's contract situation seems to be the biggest deal going into the off-season. As he's going to want a 4-5 year deal, but I don't know how long the club is going to hang on to the core of players without getting younger.

Madson gone too?

I really feel bad for Halladay. Dude is a straight up beast, and tonight's performance was incredible. The jams he got out of against a very very good offensive team were just amazing. Too bad his teammates ****ed him right in the ass. He outpitched Carpenter by half a mile.

P.S. - I STILL hate the Pence trade. If they were dead set on picking up an offensive tool would have MUCH preferred Bourne, both for his skillset and the much lower cost.

how ****ing dog**** was Howard swinging 3-0 in the 7th.

they should ****ing lock him in a room and make him watch every postseason PA this year until he's so ****ing embarrassed that he forfeits his extension

dont forget Lidge's carcass that will be gone. Don't see Rollins coming back. He signed a pretty bad deal for himself last time and if Jason Werth can get a 7 year deal at 31 Rollins will get 5 years somewhere.

yeah, depends on severity, afaik. But yeah, 10-12 months is typical of a full tear and you don't get full strength back for longer than that (his back foot, right?) Ugh Ugh.

I hate him, and I hate his giant contract which is totally undeserved, but I'm not going to say that he's easy to replace in the lineup if it comes to that.

Lidge/Raul off the books will be awesome, altho I'm terrified that they're going to pick up Oswalt's option.

if Madson wants 45 million, a football helmet filled with cream cheese and naked pictures of Bea Arthur they better let him walk tho. Tony Bastard is ready, I can feel it.

and I think we all realize Mayberry starting 135 games at 1B next season would be pretty awesome.

I'd be more happy that it means Dom gets to play on the regular than anything else.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Lidge comes back at a big discount. Maybe even Oswalt - but I really don't know there. Oswalt is going to have more suitors than will Lidge.

I also kind of just feel that Jimmy's going to get some kind of crazy offer from some dumbass team, and we're going to see if Freddy Galvis can handle the SS position next year (plus MiniMart or Exon or some other scrub pickup)

And yeah, Maddog is probably gone.

Yeah, I'm thinking that they'll still be ok next year.

What's disappointing is that while I think they'll be ok, and they'll still have the big 3, bastardo, Utley, Victorino, Pence, etc., I really do think that this was the most talented team we're likely to see any time soon. And so while they'll be good next year, and likely get their playoff lottery ticket punched, I just don't see them being overall as good a team. So in the end, you want to go into the playoffs with the best team you can muster, and I think we may have just seen that team.

It's the other way around. The regular season (162 games) is the best way to determine the best team if you had a balanced schedule.

The playoffs are for fans and $$$$. Problem is the slate is wiped clean, and your 110 wins againts 85 wins means nothing in a 5 game serious, other than you should be better than the other team.

Doesn't mean you will play better.

I am really starting to think that a 5 game baseball playoff has more variance that a one game NFL playoff game.

Being right sucks Back in 2008/2009 I told everyone who would listen that the Phillies would go the way of the Mets and fade more each year going forward. I based this on simple age. We had a very good core of hitters at their peek at the same time. Getting older is inevitable and it sucks (but fans and even idiot GMs keep expecting that same production they got last year).

Amaro does deserve some kudos, he managed to put together one of the best pitching staffs ever which goes a very long way to counter declining offense. The Phils were competitive this year and could have easily won it all. They could still do it next year.

Inevitably Ryan Howard isn't as good as he was in 2007 and the Phils lost despite the pitching.

Now I'm just numb.

I have to say it makes me feel better as a college hoops junkie. For some reason the Mike&Mikes of the world make it sound like March Madness is the only crapshoot in sports.
Lol 5 game series.

Hey Phils fans, I don't know if you watched the same series I did but it seems like it was an evenly matched, evenly played series outside of game 1. Cards just might be the one team that matches up against the Phils well. Every team has one.

Anyway, hell of a season, hope Howard comes back strong, and good luck to you guys in 2012. Fun heckling each other in the series thread.

Does get me thinking though--if Howard's out much of next season, are they in the market for Pujols?
