Srsly. How is Bruntlett getting ABs? I really don't get it.

As much as I love Halladay I don't wanna give up our entire farm system, Halladay doesn't give us a world series title 100%, sure he helps alot but say we don't win a world series in the next 2 seasons, he walks after that cause no way they re-sign him we are left with no titles and no farm system. There is gonna be some arms out there that are pitching pretty well this year that we won't need to give up nearly as much as halladay. Plus if we do get halladay we're not gonna be able to spend any money in the off-season with his $20 million next year.

On the note of Pedro, was Nolan Ryan not available. Seriously there is only 1 MLB team that would even wanna sign Pedro and we're the only team, go figure. Jamie Moyer is the only person in baseball that throws harder then pedro nowadays. Pedro is well over the hill and has no shot at being a legit 5th starter in baseball anymore.

What do you propose they do then, stand pat? OBV getting Halladay is not a 100% lock to win another championship, nobody is, but he is about as close as your gonna get to that. Even if we dont win a WS in these next 2 season without him, oh well we took our shot and didnt make it, nobody would fault the Phillies for that.

He isnt a rent a player for 2 months like Sabathia was last year. You would get one of the best pitchers in baseball for a yr and a half, why wouldnt you want to do that? And to argue the point further, if we dont re-sign him we will get 2 1st rd picks back since he will be a type A free agent. So you can replenish your farm system on the back-end. And BTW Howard, Hamels and company might not be here in 3 years, so there is a window of opportunity.

I dont want Pedro either.

Eh, reports said Pedro was hitting 91 on the gun, and I even heard 93 on talk radio. Doesn't seem like a whole lot of risk to me one way or the other. If he doesn't work out, throw him in the pen and we didn't lose too much.

As for Halladay, I would be thrilled. Losing the prospects would suck, but it's not often you get a legitimate chance to win a WS. I think we should gamble now before the window closes, and getting Halladay has to make us either favorites or close for this year (and maybe next year too!).

Kind of hard to lose playoff series' when you have Halladay/Hamels imo.

Offer that duo up to any team/GM, I guarantee they take it regardless of how Hamels has looked of late.

Hamels has the highest BABIP against of any SP in MLB I'm pretty sure. Hamels and Halladay would be a flat-out lethal combo at the top of the rotation. To argue anything different is ridiculous.

Pedro is probably going to suck. He sucked last year, and isn't just gonna jump into games and be 100% off the bat. We're roughly halfway through the season, there's not a of time for a washed up 37 year old to work out the kinks. Obviously guys like Rodrigo Lopez are pretty much assured to suck also, but Lopez is pitching for the league minimum, not really hampering our financial flexibility to make other deals. Pedro also has major distraction written all over him. Do you think Pedro will fit in on this team? I sure don't. I guess he and Romero can be crazy Hispanics together though.

I mean, the time is right to go for Halladay. Our window isn't huge. Rollins in clear decline, Howard probably has had his best seasons already, Ibanez is old, Lidge pretty old, Utley and Werth in their primes....The only core player who probably has his best seasons in front of him is Hamels. Everyone locked up for next year so we get 2 shots at it.

Obviously it depends on what the Blue Jays will demand. I wouldn't do a Drabek/Taylor/Brown package, but there's no shot any other team can put a package that good together either.

I am. He was hitting .256/.342/.382 this season which is far and away better than Bako's career avg (let alone what he is currently capable of). Besides that he was my second favorite player (behind Werth).

Its a big vote of confidence to to Mayberry, he is now our only RHB off the bench.

Werth deserves the All-Star appearance IMO, the guy is so streaky but when he is hot the man is extremely dangerous at the plate.

Blanton looked real good last night, I am starting to feel pretty confident when he is scheduled to start.

Did you guys see Rowand saving the no hitter for Johnathan O'Sanchez last night?

Cole Hamels has a BABIP of .355, which is the 2nd highest in the majors of any pitcher with at least 60 IP (John Lackey is first, .360).

Lidge is at .376.

Tonights episode of ThePen on the MLB network is on the Phils bullpen, it looks pretty interesting, it airs at 8:30 pm tonight.

The preview I saw showed a little bit about everyones old pal Jack Taschner dealing with being released when Lidge came off the DL, and I think I may have seen Lidge treating the BP to dinner? lol

You guys should check this out, could be entertaining.
