By the way, my world view was rocked by Adam Eaton's 7.1 inning 9 strikeout no walk performance last week for the Os. I can now rest easy that the earth is spinning on its axis after last night's 5 earned runs in 6 innings.

Go Phils, take another from the Nats.

Why do you think this? Ruiz is a huge defensive upgrade and started the season pretty good offensively. Coste can't even make contact thus rendering him uterly useless. Give Lou a chance I say!

Last week I traveled to different ballparks - Yankees, Mets, Cubs, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Baltimore and Boston. (Mets new ballpark is very meh btw, but that's another story) And yeah, I got to see that stud Eaton pitch again in Baltimore. I turn to my friend who is a casual baseball fan and say "that's Adam Eaton, the worst pitcher in the MLB." So it's only natural that he throws a gem and got a standing ovation when he exited.

Sounds like a great trip. How was Pittsburgh? Broadcasters always comment on how nice it is.

I guess I'll do a mini-TR. We started out last Saturday at at Citi Field to watch the Brewers take on Johan and the Mets for a 1:00 start, and it was pretty disappointing. When you go to Citizens Bank Park you know you're in Phillies country - Harry the K's, Bulls BBQ, Ashburn Alley, etc. Citi Field just really didn't have anything unique to the Mets history, other than that stupid apple in center field. And every space was covered with huge advertisements.

Despite wearing my Phillies shirt and hat, no Mets fan said anything to me. One good thing about the ballpark was that I saw the hottest girl ever walking around so congratulations Mets fans, at least you have that going for you.

We left at around the 7th for the Bronx to see the Indians play the Yankees at the brand new Yankee stadium and I was completely blown away. Simply put, they were able to pimp out a new and improved Yankee Stadium without losing any of look and feel of the original. They have just about anything you want to eat, including a sushi bar. The one negative is that everything is ridiculously expensive. We paid around $250 for 12th row seats and beer in a souvenir cup is $10. Oh yeah, this is the game where the Yankees lost by around 20 runs.

From there we drove 12 hours to Chicago to watch the Cardinals take on the Cubbies at Wrigley for a Sunday night game. Two bad things happened from there. 1. Going 93 in a 65 in Indiana will cost you $285.00. 2. The weather was miserable in Chicago and the game was rained out. We had to switch our plans and stay an extra two nights so that we could see the Cubs play the Reds on Tuesday, which meant we couldn't go to Pittsburgh. (sorry stevieg, didn't make it there, although I have heard great things as well)

The area around Wrigley, called Wriggleyville, is really nice with a lot of good sports bars - the Cubby Bear, Harry Carey's Tavern, etc. Wrigley was nice, but probably would have been much nicer if the weather hadn't been 30 degrees and raining.

Next we were off to Cleveland to check out Progressive Field. This was probably my least favorite ballpark all trip, which I guess was to be expected. It's also funny how different the fans act here as they never seemed to yell out at the players, quite different from Philly, Boston and New York. Also, the girls in Cleveland look like farm animals.

Bonus pictures of King James and a Philly Phanatic wannabe!

The next morning we drove to Baltimore to watch the White Sox and O's. I've been to Camden yards 3 or 4 times before and it is one of my favorite ballparks. This time I was fortunate to watch a pitching clinic as Adam Eaton and Bartolo Colon were dueling. Our tickets were located in right field, first row. We were 10 feet away from Bartolo warming up which meant we were able to remind him of how fat he is.

The last stop of the trip was Boston to watch the Yankees and Red Sox play on Saturday. Apparently these two teams hate each other. I really dislike both of these teams but ended up rooting for the Red Sox since I didn't want to deal with their suicidal fans if they were to lose. Despite Fenway having nowhere to walk, small seats and expensive beer, the atmosphere more then made up for it. It was a great game and felt like a playoff game. My friend on the trip is from Boston and knows people who work at the ballpark so we were able to get on top of the monster to watch the game.

RECAP
Hottest girls: Yankee Stadium
Best atmosphere: Fenway
Best stadium: Yankee Stadium

Rather epic for mini. Thanks for putting that together, it was a fun read.

Shae about the Phils tonight. They put a lot of men on base with little to show, and Myers actually pitched pretty well. Lost out on BABIP. OK, guess you have to take that.

I think the Phils were looking ahead to the Mets this weekend, and you had some Nats pitchers trying to keep their big league jobs tonight.

That's an awesome trip. I'm jealous. The Mets have received a ton of criticism similar to yours about the new ballpark (re: lack of a Mets feel). The Wilpons are supposedly going to take measures to correct that, but it's obviously a glaring oversight of immense proportions. In my mind one simple and quick fix would be to make the outfield fence blue, like it was a Shea. There is no reason that it should be black.

Anyway, I'd wish you guys luck this weekend but my team needs it more than yours right now. We are terrible. Ha.

Coff - thanks, it was a lot of very. extremely tiring as we drove everywhere, but i think it's gonna be one of those things where i look back at years later and am glad i did so. lol, i've been avoiding looking at my bank statements but i'm guessing around $1500 total. we bought nice seats for only the yankees game, the rest of the games we averaged around $20 a ticket because we just planned on walking around each ballpark to take pictures, watch from different angles

wh1t3bread - thanks as well. i think i was a little to harsh to citi field as i felt i sort of had to be in the phillies thread. don't get me wrong, it's a beautful place to watch a game, but of course it's gonna fail in comparison to that monsterous new place in the bronx. my three big issues with citi field are

1. wayyyy too many large advertisements all over the place. my friend pointed this out to me and once it was in my head it kept me from watching the game as i couldnt help but look at these things.

2. the place just has a way too generic feel. switch the colors up and it could be any other teams place. honestly, i didn't get to walk around the whole place as we had to leave early for yankee stadium, so i probably saw around 75%. are there any food places unique to the new york area? i saw nathan's but that was about it. it should be easy to correct though.

3. i'm probably alone here, but i hate the black wall. it just doesn't feel like the mets. paint that bitch blue. is this too nitty?

ps. i think that apple is really cool

I haven't been there yet but will later this summer. I'm sure that's probably the case though as that's pretty standard for the Mets. Lame.

This really has been the #1 criticism from Mets fans, the generic feel. Supposedly they are going to do something about that this offseason, like build a Mets museum as one example. We'll see what happens here. It's still idiotic that this wasn't predicted and taken care of prior to the inaugural season. I think there are a bunch of places to eat unique to New York. I'll let others who've been there elaborate.

You aren't alone, I said it earlier and others have said it in the Mets thread. Apparently they tried to paint it blue but the material wouldn't hold the paint so they had to paint it black instead. I find that practically impossible to believe. I hope they rip those walls down before next season and use a different material that will hold blue paint.

If you look at the initial drawings and computer generated sketches of Citi Field the outfield wall is in fact blue. They seriously do need to make it blue. I hate the black.

Nice trip. Funny timing, as just yesterday I had pulled out the photo album from my CHW/MIL/STL/CHC/CIN/DET/CLE/DET road trip of a few years ago to reminisce.

(Saw the replies and had to take you off ignore to see the TR. Well done, maybe you'll come off now. I think that was from being a douche in the Mets thread in 2007..haha)
