I guess I'll do a mini-TR. We started out last Saturday at at Citi Field to watch the Brewers take on Johan and the Mets for a 1:00 start, and it was pretty disappointing. When you go to Citizens Bank Park you know you're in Phillies country - Harry the K's, Bulls BBQ, Ashburn Alley, etc. Citi Field just really didn't have anything unique to the Mets history, other than that stupid apple in center field. And every space was covered with huge advertisements.
Despite wearing my Phillies shirt and hat, no Mets fan said anything to me. One good thing about the ballpark was that I saw the hottest girl ever walking around so congratulations Mets fans, at least you have that going for you.
We left at around the 7th for the Bronx to see the Indians play the Yankees at the brand new Yankee stadium and I was completely blown away. Simply put, they were able to pimp out a new and improved Yankee Stadium without losing any of look and feel of the original. They have just about anything you want to eat, including a sushi bar. The one negative is that everything is ridiculously expensive. We paid around $250 for 12th row seats and beer in a souvenir cup is $10. Oh yeah, this is the game where the Yankees lost by around 20 runs.
From there we drove 12 hours to Chicago to watch the Cardinals take on the Cubbies at Wrigley for a Sunday night game. Two bad things happened from there. 1. Going 93 in a 65 in Indiana will cost you $285.00. 2. The weather was miserable in Chicago and the game was rained out. We had to switch our plans and stay an extra two nights so that we could see the Cubs play the Reds on Tuesday, which meant we couldn't go to Pittsburgh. (sorry stevieg, didn't make it there, although I have heard great things as well)
The area around Wrigley, called Wriggleyville, is really nice with a lot of good sports bars - the Cubby Bear, Harry Carey's Tavern, etc. Wrigley was nice, but probably would have been much nicer if the weather hadn't been 30 degrees and raining.
Next we were off to Cleveland to check out Progressive Field. This was probably my least favorite ballpark all trip, which I guess was to be expected. It's also funny how different the fans act here as they never seemed to yell out at the players, quite different from Philly, Boston and New York. Also, the girls in Cleveland look like farm animals.
Bonus pictures of King James and a Philly Phanatic wannabe!
The next morning we drove to Baltimore to watch the White Sox and O's. I've been to Camden yards 3 or 4 times before and it is one of my favorite ballparks. This time I was fortunate to watch a pitching clinic as Adam Eaton and Bartolo Colon were dueling. Our tickets were located in right field, first row. We were 10 feet away from Bartolo warming up which meant we were able to remind him of how fat he is.
The last stop of the trip was Boston to watch the Yankees and Red Sox play on Saturday. Apparently these two teams hate each other. I really dislike both of these teams but ended up rooting for the Red Sox since I didn't want to deal with their suicidal fans if they were to lose. Despite Fenway having nowhere to walk, small seats and expensive beer, the atmosphere more then made up for it. It was a great game and felt like a playoff game. My friend on the trip is from Boston and knows people who work at the ballpark so we were able to get on top of the monster to watch the game.
