Talking some Giants in the offseason thread made me want to get this party started, so let's do this.

Our beloved team is coming off of an impressive yet dissapointing season in which the team started 10-1, finished 12-4, won the NFC East and the #1 seed in the NFC and lost to our hated rival the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional Round.

The brutal ending aside, last season was still a big step in solidifying the franchise as a contender for the foreseeable future. The NFC East as always will be extremely tough with Philadelphia as one of the best teams in the league, and Dallas/Washington as big question marks who could both have very good seasons.

Even with the loss of Plaxico I think that the offseason was a very good one. The team had a very solid draft (again), and spent a lot of money in free agency which along with the addition of Osi will help our defense greatly. A defensive line consisting of Tuck/Osi/Kiwi/Canty/Robbins/Bernard/Coefield is just straight up disgusting. On the other side of the line we have the best offensive line in the league.

The obvious question marks are how will the young receivers fair the season? Will the OL continue to run good with injuries? Will Eli continue to improve or not? Will the secondary be a strength or a weakness? Will Jacobs stay healthy? How will Osi return from his injury?

I love this team coming into next season and for down the line. In my incredibly biased opinion this is a 11-12 win team that should contend for a title. With that being said we play in a very tough division and there a lot of questions where the answers will heavily impact where the team finishes next season. Either way I cannot ****ing wait for football to come back.

I figured we can throw ideas around on a more interesting thread title so if anyone has any good ideas let's hear them.

Given our FA signings, we should have at worst a top 5 defense this season. I'm pretty high on Clint Stintim being our SAM. Just the ideal fit for that position.

I didn't like going WR in round 1, but I think that our hands were tied there. Too many WRs were picked before us so I guess we had to get one in the first. So, I'm interested to see what Nicks can do. I don't think he's any better than a #2 in the NFL, but maybe I'll be proven wrong.

I didn't see that Karak started an offseason thread. This is what happens when you make threads too early.

Anyways we can merge them or just bump this when the interest is higher. Seems like most are in baseball mode, but I miss football .

re: Nicks/WRs

He looked really really good in mini camp from everything I read. Great hands and should be able to contribute as a rookie. Barden looks like a huge project (as expected). The big thing I remember reading was how good Sinorice Moss looked. Obviously a big question mark as to whether or not that will translate into a good season, but if he is healthy (finally) he could be a big boost to our passing game.

Smith/Hixon/Nicks/Moss could be a very solid and young WR corps with a lot of potential if things break right.

Wasn't it just a hamstring strain like a month ago?

Is it something new or is that still an issue?

We're in the most competitive division in the NFL. Naturally, we're gonna have a tougher schedule than most.

Random bump because it is August.

Nicks signed, the two second rounders signed, which is all good and expected.

I'm starting to get worried about the Pierce stuff, is he really going to get charged for this ****?

Bernard, Boley, and Robbins on the PUP list. Hopefully those injury issues are done with before the season starts.

Those might just be for precautionary reasons. Might be something minor and they want those guys to be 100% ready to go before the reg. season.

I would put money down that Pierce won't get charged. There was no criminal intent in his acts. He didn't act ideally (should have called the paramedics/police), but his decisions were made with the best interest of his friend in mind.

Pierce now officially in the clear as it's being reported that he will not be indicted according to Beningo & Roberts on WFAN.

What do you guys think of the contract? A couple of my Giant fan friends say that they overpaid and that Eli has terrible stats. I say that what Eli got was in line with what all other franchise QB's get when they're locked up, ala Big Ben, and that when you've won a Super Bowl with him you really shouldn't be complaining over a few mill they could have saved by playing hardball. Thoughts?

Like I said in the other thread, Eli was always going to be "overpaid," but the Giants would be stupid to not give him the money and lose him. This deal was always going to happen like this, i'm just glad it isn't a new benchmark type QB deal or anything like that.

yeah i think the deal is fine. cant just look at stats as the guy plays for a running team in a wind tunnel in the most difficult division in football.

I really think our secondary is going to be a pleasant surprise this season. Kenny Phillips has been making play after play intercepting the ball in training camp. He had his hands tied last year but they are allowing him to be a playmaker so far in camp. The only thing I am worried about is everytime I read about a receiver making a good play it is on Aaron Ross. Hopefully he recovers from last year.

Also, Ramses Barden has supposedly been tearing up camp so far. On all of Eli's interviews, he is the first receiver Eli mentions saying how surprised he is on how fast he is progressing. The kid has a really good head on his shoulders from all interviews and has been hitting the playbook hard. I'm excited for Eli to have another big red zone target to go along with Boss. I can't wait for Monday night to see how all the receivers do. Manningham and Moss need to step up. Should be interesting Monday getting a first hand look at the receivers.

Yea I agree. People keep matching him up to big brother and it's not fair. If he were Eli Smith or whatever, no one would be saying anything.

This is the other part people keep forgetting. Other than Phil Simms and maybe Kenny O'Brien, no QB has made it a good career in Giants Stadium.
