Woot. Would like to see him get the start, but prob going to be Kolb still, Garcia will just be the backup.

O/U on how long it takes the crowd to start chanting for Garcia? I'll set the line at .5 incompletions.

Saw reports about this as well. Is there word on who was dropped? I'm guessing Dixon the DT.

Also, I'm not really sure why we'd sign Garcia unless he was going to get the start. He has to know this is at most a 3 week thing, so I'm guessing he just wants to get a chance to showcase himself to other teams. He won't be doing that as the backup.

Can't find anything on who was cut, but Dixon is a good guess.

I remember in 2006 when Garcia came in against Carolina and the chants for AJ Feeley happened immediately. LOLShoeontheotherfootaments

Personally I'd prefer Garcia to Kolb, I think it gives us a better chance of winning the game, and I agree that it doesn't make sense for Garcia to sign a contract to be the backup for a week. But if Reid doesn't have enough confidence in Kolb to start him in this situation, then why do we even keep him around?

Apparently McNabb is going to try to play if he can, but I'd rather him sit in the hot tub for a couple weeks and get back to 100%.

Also, Carolina signed AJ Feeley today.

Hoping we sign Runyan as well.

Dixon is a good guess, but he was actually active yesterday.

edit: PFT says Feeley said no to the Eagles, which makes sense. In his spot, I probably would too, especially if a team like Carolina looks like it needs a starting QB for longer than 2 games.

If you're AJ Feeley, and your choice is Carolina or Philly, you chose Carolina.

If you're Jeff Garcia, and your choice is Philly or unemployed, you chose Philly.

Sal Paolantonio on ESPNews reporting that the Eagles are trying to trade Reggie Brown and Hank Baskett. If no trade can be reached, they will release Baskett.

Releasing Brown is not an option because they would have to eat $4M in cap space next season.

More from Sal Pal (Paraphrasing):

"Eagles trainer Rick Burkholter is one of the best in the business, and they are doing everything possible to get McNabb ready, including acupunture and putting him in a hyperbaric chamber each night."

"The rib is broken on the lower right side, his throwing side. He is in a lot of pain, and cannot walk or even sit up without pain at this point."

"He is still hopefull he can play, but I will be shocked slash blown away if he plays."

"In week three, a lot depends. Vick did not look good in preseason. We don't know how well McNabb will recover. We don't know how well Kobb will play. And now they have Garcia. Vick is option 4 at QB in week four."

Sal Pal on the Eagles' confidence in Kobb (paraphrasing).

"It's shaky. They won't say that publicly, but it's shaky. He has had some time on the field in relief of McNabb, including yesterday and against Baltimore last year, and has led the Eagles to zero points."

"It's always something with this team."

I'd feel more comfortable with Garcia starting than Kolb, tbh. Also, any word on whether Mcnabb is def gonna try to go or not? I'd kind of like to see him sit for a couple weeks since we have the early bye, and make sure he's 100% when he comes back.

I agree with both of these things.

I'm a little surprised Baskett would be the guy to go. He's definitely not the worst receiver on the roster, but he is pretty expendable. I'd rather see Dixon go. We don't need 4 DT's when we have Abiamiri and Howard (and even occasionally Jaqua) rotate inside on passing downs.

Isn't it going to be an uncapped year next season? I haven't kept up with the details on that stuff, but that's what I keep hearing. If that's the case, I'd much rather dump Brown and keep Baskett. If someone will trade us a couple water coolers and jockstraps for Brown, that's even better.

There's no guarantee on an uncapped year, although it's possible.

Kolb will probably start, and I hope he does well.

It's pretty annoying how everyone in the world is saying the Garcia signing is all about Kolb. Well, if McNabb can't play this week, KOLB IS THE ONLY QB LEFT!! You can't go into a game with 1 QB, even if your emergency QB is Desean .

Vick isn't ready to play a full game at QB at all, so it could be a similar situation for week 3.

I agree Garcia is a nice insurance policy if Kolb stinks it up, but even if they do have all the faith in the world in Kolb, they needed to make a move and Garcia makes sense.

Re: Brown - I must have missed something. What does next year being uncapped have anything to do with keeping Brown now? They owe him the whole years salary no matter what. Does something in his contract count against the cap next year?

Pretty apparent once again that it isn't just a back issue. So sad, what a great player.
