I wasn't opposed to resigning Baskett, I just didn't understand why he had to "visit".

That being said, Baskett has been signed, Fargas next?

No idea, but guessing 1Y/900K with like 500K worth of incentives. It's definitely one year though, that was reported.

A 1-year contract for a guy who knows the system is ok for insurance. He's fighting for what though, the #5 slot on the WR depth chart? (I assume K Curtis is coming back ok, haven't been following.). I would think Baskett would be close to the minimum salary for his years in whatever that is.

LOL Fargas though. Either sign a decent backup or draft one high, and then snag another in the 4th or 5th or something. I don't know what he's looking to get paid but I doubt he's worth it.

Here's another pretty reasonable Eagles signing. Way more sense than paying LT what he got or even what LJ got, and it's easy to dump him in the final cuts if he can't beat out a couple rookies without losing any sleep.

Now, someone please tell me how Darryl Tapp is worth a 4th round pick? I mean I figure he's got to be cheap, but even a lower-end 4th seems like an awful lot.

The trade was Clemons and a 4th for Tapp. I don't really get how he is worth a pick either. I didn't expect Clemons to even make the team so that part is irrelevant.

The Bell signing seems pretty reasonable.

I'm ignoring Clemons, I'm not even sure he'll make the Seahawks roster. They're signing long-shot DEs from the CFL and whatnot to find backps so I guess he's not hopeless, but meh. Def a non-factor. Jesus a 4th rounder though for a team that tries to build via the draft. The must really see something they like, but I dunno. You'd think he could be had for a 6th just as easy?

Im a fan of the Bell signing, it seems a low risk medium reward type move. Like you said if he cant beat out a few rooks for a spot then he is easily cut...

I dont know a ton about Darryl Tapp, I was suprised to hear it took a 4th rd pick to get him as well. Hopefully King Andy knows something about him that we do not...

I really know nothing about Tapp, but if he turns out to be a solid starter, a 4th seems reasonable, considering he's still young.

I like the Mike Bell signing, hope Saints dont match.

He says he still wants to play football. If he does I want to be there to boo him mercilessly. If a player doesn't live up to his potential, I'm fine with it, but with him I got the sense he didn't want to play football/work, but just strung the eagles along to keep collecting that fat paycheck.

Oh I agree, not another down. He acted exactly like his nickname, a Big Kid. His work ethic was awful and the constant excuses made it really difficult to beleive anything he said when it came to injuries/personal issues.

I'll feel bad for any organization that gives him a shot...unless its DAL or NYG obv.

DHoward and KCurtis got the axe. Nothing too surprising there. Lot of vets getting cut or dealt this offseason. McNabb for picks makes so much sense, but seems so unlikely.

I'm going to miss curtis, hadn't had the injuries could have been so productive in this offense.

They basically used the non cap to dump all the bloated fat on their roster. The only one that surprised me a little was Stacy Andrews just b/c he was sooooo bad last year when he actually played. Igglesblog just had a great post about Howard and he basically ran hot 2 years ago with his 10 sacks and wasn't actually as good as his numbers indicated thus the drop in production this past year. They have like no one to rush the passer inside now though. Abirimiri is basically a bust since staying healthy is a skill and he can't do that and Laws is just a bad fit for their system.

I liked what I saw of Laws last year.

All teams should be doing that this year imo. If DAL can dump TO's full contract extension before he played for any of it, then they can dump a Roy Williams 11. Sucks for the owners eating the bonuses, but this is a great chance to pay off your past free agency mistakes.

This offseason will be a pretty good barometer in judging which owners are willing (and able) to light some cash on fire for the sake of their teams...

No problem with any of the cuts (except Shawn, just because it's sad).

Completely disagree here. Minus chronic conditions, injuries are pretty much all variance imo (although I'd say playing style has some impact).

Yeah, I'm not giving up on Abirimiri just yet, and he's produced in his limited playing time.

Does it actually cost any money to cut these guys? I figured all this signing bonus money was paid out up front, but for cap # purposes "spread out" over the course of contracts.

If they're paying out more signing bonuses to replace the guys they're cutting, then that's an added cost I guess. The uncapped year is certainly a fascinating exercise.
