Winning 11-15 games a year and going deep into the playoffs means nothing. We've been there with Reid/McNabb. It wasn't good enough. Reid/McNabb won a hell of a lot of games for us and Philly was absolutely sick of not being able to get over the hump.

I don't know where you people live but I'm telling you from a person who actually lives in Philadelphia (unlike the last 3 people who've chimed in on the subject) winning a championship is the only goal. If we had Joe Flacco's or Eli's career play out right here (playoffs and winning a Superbowl and then considered "mediocre") I'd die happy, and so would the rest of this city.

1. So, this whole thing where you are calling people out for not living in Philadelphia is ridiculous. I live a half hour from the city, and I live, eat and breathe Philly sports. I've been hooked on the Eagles since I was probably 5 or 6 years old when me and the old man use to go to the bowling alley every Sunday and eat pizza and watch the game. I was there freezing my ass off when they beat the Falcons in the NFC championship game. I was there when The Phillies clinched their first division title in many years celebrating with Jimmy when he brought champagne back out of the locker room back onto the field to celebrate with the fans. I have watched more eagles, Phillies, and Sixers games in the last 25 years than probably 90% of the people who actually live in Philadelphia. So, get out of here with that nonsense.

2. I know a decent amount of people who live in the city, and from knowing those people I can tell you not everyone shares your point of view. Sure, everyone is craving a super bowl more than anything, but there are a lot of people from Philly who are much more about enjoying the ride than you are. Many people cherish those Eagles teams from the mid 2000's and appreciate what Reid and Donovan and Dawkins did for us.Crave a super bowl more than anything? Damn right. Super bowl or bust? nah, not everyone feels that way.

3. You are making a terrible argument in this thread. You at first state that Joe Flacco is a better QB than Wentz. Than you basically twist that argument into a different argument that we would be happy if Wentz' career followed Flacco's career simply in terms of post season wins and Super Bowl wins. Well, no ****. Of course we'd be happy if Wentz won a Super Bowl. But that has nothing to do with comparing his ability to Flacco's ability. Hell, you might as well say we'd be happy if Wentz' career followed Trent Dilfer's career trajectory. Stop sorting by rings, it's the easiest way to point out an uneducated sports fan.

4. What are you not seeing in Wentz that you would consider all of these QBs better than him and you would probably take Goff over him and definitely Prescott? What is your deal? The kid has looked great. Every analyst that has actually played the game says the sky is the limit for him. They say the game tape actually shows even more progress from year 1 to year 2 than the stats do (even though the stats are excellent.) What exactly is your issue with Wentz where you are pumping the brakes so hard, to the point where you would probably take Goff over him? Or maybeeeeee you are one of those people that lost their minds when Howie traded up for him, and ever since you have been waiting for him to fail.

Edit: Last point, the fastest way to winning a SB is to have a QB with exceptional ability, but It can be done other ways, like when Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl. Or even when Ben Roethlisberger won his first Super Bowl since he was {9 for 22, 123 yards passing, 0 TDs , 2 ints, 22 QB rating} But hey, he is the QB, so he's the reason the Steelers won that Super Bowl right? Isn't that how it works????

Sorry, that's just how it is. I live here, the mentality is downright psychotic. When the Eagles play people turn their phones off. When they lose they don't want to talk, go out, eat, whatever. I've had friends simply say "I have to go home" after a tough loss. We are not casual fans in any sense of the word, we ride and die with this team every week and we absolutely positively need a championship. NFC championship game isn't cutting it. Anything less than a Superbowl is a failure.

If you are a casual fan, I'm happy for you. It means you're a normal person. The fans in Philly aren't normal.

Did this guy really just say if we traded Wentz for guys like Eli, Flacco, Ben and Smiff that we'd win more games?

Amazing.

That's not the same as trading in our future dynasty for a somewhat better shot at winning this year for the price of sucking ass after that for years. See, I really really want to win. But Eli isn't winning with us this year. Neither ist Ben. Carson MIGHT. Carson WILL in the future, I'm sold on that. If that makes me "casual" then whatever.

lol way to ignore the entire rest of the post. Not easy to argue logic with lunacy though, so I understand. Also, as said before I live, eat, and breathe Philadelphia sports. The fact that I enjoy the ride my sports teams take me on and you obviously don't does not make you a bigger fan. As I said, I know plenty of people from Philadelphia and I am just as big of fan as they are and just as vested as they are. Some of them are like you with the "pump the brakes", championship or bust mentality, and some aren't. People view things differently.

It does not make someone less of a sports fan if they are able to actually enjoy the ride and not just the end result. It does not mean that you are okay with losing if you enjoy the ride. Actually, the "pump the brakes" crowd that constantly have their guard up and say Super Bowl or bust get a lot less enjoyment from their sports teams. So again, get out of here with that nonsense.

And again, way to ignore the rest of the post... including dodging answering why you are down on Carson compared to most people and most analysts.

This is why when someone posts a top QBs in 2017 list that is obviously #sortBySuperBowls you just let it go.

I love Wentz, I think he's great and he's got a promising future. I'm simply keeping things in perspective.

I'm 41 and I've been a Philadelphia sports fan my entire life. It's a hard road and we've had so much heartbreak. I'm just a bit more cautious because we've been let down a lot.

I think you mistake me. I love the Eagles. I'm just ensuring I don't cry myself to sleep when the season ends.

Okay so most of what you say is just a defense mechanism to protect your sanity. I get it now. Understood. Carry on and Go Eagles! 27-23 W tonight.

you guys haven't figured out that wil has the sports acumen of a wip caller yet? that is, one who probably calls and bitches to trade some 3rd stringer on our team to another team for their best player. "ZOMG ANGELO, WE SHOULD TOTALLY TRADE TOBIN FOR BECKHAM. THE GIANTS WOULD SO TAKE THAT TRADE BECAUSE THEY NEED SOOOOOOO MUCH HELP ON THE OLINE. I'M A ****ING GENIUS!!!!"

proof #1: he made an argument that living in Philly means he's more of a fan than others who live around Philly or don't live in Philly at all. cause thats obv the bar for fandom. if you live in a suburb of philly you can't be as big of a fan of the people who live in philly.

just because your friends are idiots who cant process things well in their obv very small brains doesn't mean your more of a fan. it most certainly does mean that your closer to the idiot stereotypical fan the the national media likes to portray us as. congrats for throwing batteries at JD Drew (probably), i'm sure you think you're awesome....

one does not "keep things into perspective" if they possibly cry themselves to sleep at the end of a football season. that is literally the opposite of keeping things in perspective

Being a Philadelphia sports fan is hard. I just had to detach myself a little bit. Those playoff runs hurt. Those flyers runs hurt. The 93 Phillies losing to the blue Jays broke my heart. Sixers losing in the finals....The Tampa Bay Bucs beating us in that game... It still hurts to talk about it.

I just couldn't take the heartbreak anymore. I got so fired up and one day I realized punching the couch and screaming at the top of my lungs during games just isn't good for me. When the Phillies won the world series I looked around the bar and there were a lot of tears in people's eyes. Our sports teams mean a lot to us. I have kids now so I try to keep even keel.

And yes, the fans here in the city actually do take the losses a bit harder. I think part of that is because for many people here it's almost like their sports team is all they got. They can't afford to go to the game but they are dedicated as can be. Too dedicated.

Again, I love Wentz, and I personally think we may have found the key we need. I'm a bit worried about our coach. I'm quietly praying we are on the road to winning a Superbowl within 3 years. I'm just real, real cautious about how excited I'll let myself get.

Go eagles.

no they dont

i lived in university city and old city for almost a decade. i lived in philly suburbs for almost 2 decades. i've seen situations you describe in the suburbs and even in states that are no where near PA. living in the city doesn't make you a "better" fan or a more engaged fan. you can keep arguing it does, but you just look worse the more you continue this line of thinking

Thursday night games are the worst idea in the history of football. Why they do this is beyond me.

Good win, especially playing against the Panthers and the refs. And the team now gets a long break, which they need. But I don't think you can take away too much from this game on how good the Eagles are because Thursday games are always just crap.

Good win, and don't take much away?

I'm sick of people downplaying wins. The short week affects both teams, even more for the team that has to travel.

Think I'd disagree with "playing the refs". Many of the penalties were obvious calls due to stupidity.

DOUG cost you a perfect prediction by correctly going for two. Laughed so hard at the video of him being annoyed that the refs just assumed he wanted to tack the yardage onto the kickoff.
