You're talking ~ 2 first round picks and 2 second rounders. Do you really want to do that?

Absolutely. You also have to project that next year's 1st and 2nd round picks are likely late-ish picks as well.

I'm not somebody who follows college enough to have a good read on Mariota's NFL prospects, but I'm in the relatively small minority that wouldn't mind seeing it happen. As everybody is aware, QB is the most important position in the league. If we're going to ever become an elite team with Chip, it's going to be with an elite or borderline elite QB. We don't have that on the roster currently and this team will never be bad enough to draft one without trading up. I suppose you can just draft a project in the second or third round, but if Chip feels Mariota is the guy he needs then he needs to go out and get him, period.

Of course there's a ton of risk involved and it could easily blow up in our face and set us back years. I'm still okay with it because I don't just want to be a second tier contender for the entirety of Chip's tenure here.

James Casey released.

Pretty sure we all knew this was happening.

Cannot wait until Cary Williams is released as well.

I wonder if the Eagles franchise maclin and let graham walk.

I would hope they don't franchise Maclin.

Winston is going 1st. He's the better prospect. MM could drop after that, Discount Double Check/Johnny F****** Football style.

Though if he makes it to 9, they may have to make a deal because STL (@10) can't be expected to continue with Bradford injuries forever

I think Chip's offensive production relies more on scheme as opposed to talent than every other team and as a result he would be less crippled by giving up picks. Mariota also is more valuable to the Eagles than he is to any other team. I'd like to see the Eagles land him.

His combine didn't indicate this. Bum shoulder, slow 40. Looking like he may be the one to fall aorn.

Winston threw effortlessly, had great mechanics, and an above average press conference.

Obviously a lot will depend on the one on one interviews; however, it seems like Winston solidified himself as #1 qb prospect.

And in the reading too much into things department.

Bucs owner

“We need a quarterback that can throw the ball and make a variety of throws, we need a leader, a guy who makes great decisions. We’d like to have a guy who is mobile in the pocket."

Note on what he states on need (Winston) versus like (Mariota).

Looks like you're right Fonkey. It seems despite his aforementioned bum pitching shoulder and slow 40, as well as wild fluctuations in body weight due to overeating and "questionable" off the field conduct, he is smart at the footbaw and can make all the throws. McShay said he is his 2nd highest rated QB prospect ever behind Luck. This is good for the Eagles if they want to get Mariota - the further he falls the more likely the Eagles can move up to get him, and trading down from #1 to #20, regardless of the future picks included, may just not be feasible for a Bucs staff that may be looking to save their jobs.

If Mariota falls past the jets at 6 I think the possibility becomes real since we are talking a first/second(foles) this year and then a future second or third this year.

The odds of MM falling past the Titans or jets seems very low though and the Browns have those 2 picks in the first if he falls a little.

Todd Herremans cut. Thought they would bring him back for 1 more year but not surprising. Old and clearly on his last legs

i know people are talking about the lolBrowns going after him, but is he really worth it for anyone but the eagles? and the Titans have Mettenberger (sp?) and Jets have Geno. i know we're not talking about the best QBs ever, but they are teams with glaring weaknesses and the QB might not be the biggest one. plus Jaws said last night that MM was 2-3 years away from playing QB in the NFL unless he ends up in a system he knows. he said his hips are slow and his footwork isnt great from under center.

i think McShay graded him out as like a 93 or something, which is high, but not the best ever. does it make sense for any team to really move up to get him? the only reason its a conversation here is because of Kelly, without him, i cant see it being even a good move, let alone great move. if he whiffs in your system, you're F'ed for 3-5 years minimum, look at Washington

granted, it's much less of a risk for the Titans or Jets, but still, they have other issues

doesn't look good for keeping Maclin

Dez and Thomas both got tagged so him and Cobb are gonna get paid

Imo Maclin is gonna get overpaid. I think chip can make a lot of WRs look better than they are. Not saying Maclin isn't good, but he isn't worth whatever absurd amount he get signed by some ****ty non-contender

Wouldn't be surprised at all if Foles, Maclin, and McCoy weren't Eagles next year, while Cooper was, to the displeasure of many (even if Chip doesn't get Mariota).

Cooper is about 99.99% to be on the roster next year.

Edit: at least Cary Williams got released )

Edit 2: maclin is worth about 9.5-10mil a year but the Eagles put themselves in this position by not signing him last year or tagging him this year.

Bye Sconces!

Eagles with over $30M in cap space now...still with some high salaries that might be cut/restructured in Cole and Ryans.

It's essentially a pipe dream but there is a non zero percent chance the Eagles resign maclin for 10 mil a year, get maxwell for 8-10mil, and mccourtney for 7-9 million along with drafting a first round cb.

With how guaranteed money works and wanting to roll over 5-10 mil the Eagles would still have enough 5 mil for draft picks and ~10mil for guard or backups or getting deals done early.

Edit: Trent cole now released. ~40 mil in cap space. I expect the Eagles to be huge players on the market. If you assume 5 mil in rookie salaries and rolling over 5 mil that gives the Eagles 30 million to play with. With the fancy accounting nfl front offices do they can sign players totaling about 45 million per year so Mac at 10, maxwell at 10, Devin at 8 then 17 mil for linebacker/ol help. Graham might even come back at 7 mil.

Chip Kelly is ruthless and I'm glad.
