Vick thing is completely out of left field. Every time Red mentioned the wildcat in his presser he smiled so thats probably why he is here. If Vick still has like 95 speed I may actually buy Madden this year.

Only thing I noticed from the game is McCoy looks legit. I almost had a heart attack when Celek came up gimpy though.

I remember talking to my dad a couple weeks ago on if we should sign Vick. I was all for it. Definitely a good football move.

Now that it's actually happened (and I'm shocked it did), I'm not sure how I feel. Still a good football move. No lose really, and it's never a bad thing to add a very talented player to the roster. I agree with Fink that it just doesn't feel quite right. That said, overall I'm excited about the move. It will be interesting to see the Philadelphia reaction tomorrow. I disagree with everything he did, but there's a lot of good people in his corner. I love dogs as much as anyone, but I'm willing to look past what he did. I just hope that he can bring a lot to this football team.

Andy and Marty can definitely get really creative with the offense. It'll be interesting to see what they do.

I think the move is a big thumbs up to McNabb and a big slap in the face to Kolb. To me this move says Kolb is not the future of this football team. I know publicly they are saying Vick is being brought in purely for running the wildcat, but to me it shows a lack of confidence in Kolb. Vick 100% is not the future, so it's telling McNabb he's the guy for the next two years, and probably beyond that until they take a QB high in the draft.

On to the game. I only saw the first half because I went out and got drunk during the second half. Hopefully I'll get to see the whole second half in the next couple of days. I really liked what I saw from both McCoy and Weaver. We have more insurance from Westbrook than ever before, and hopefully that helps to keep him healthy. Obviously Maclin muffing the punt was not good, but hopefully that was just first game jitters/missing too much camp. I think he'll be the punt returner for the regular season. Really sloppy first half... way too many penalties. Then again, it's the first preseason game so I'm not too worried. I didn't mind seeing Justice get beat (though he actually wasn't bad), but I'm a little worried with how Peters looked. The announcers were blaming him for one sack which I actually thought was Cole's fault on the stunt. I think he'll get himself righted though. He's a top 5 LT in the league in my opinion. McNabb wasn't very sharp, but meh, he'll get there. I really wasn't a fan of the linebacker play. Mays did alright, but I wasn't really impressed. I didn't really notice Jordan, which is a good thing, except for the blown coverage on TV. Gocong was my least favorite linebacker last year, and while I'm not sure he's the long term solution at SAM, was solid and our best linebacker tonight. I'd still love to see Gaither on the field full time. The play from the wide receivers I saw in the first half was okay, but I wanted to see more from Curtis. I'm definitely not worried about the wide receivers as a group though.

I'm still really exited for this season (hopefully we can remain injury free for the rest of the preseason, and for the season too). Maybe this will be the year, but there's still a long way to go.

Also, I already had tickets to the game in Atlanta in December. It should be a very interesting game.

Eagles could be pretty damn nice in Madden depending on how good Vick is. Thats one of the first things I thought about.

At least the last 2 preseason games are going to be very exciting. Vick not be far from where he needs to be, obv conditioning and timming will be an issue but I think he can get in shape in about a month. Aside from that he doesnt have much to learn in terms of the playbook (although it should be expanding with him on the team), Marty runs the same version of the West coast offense the Greg Knapp ran in the ATL with Vick so he already knows the terminology and plays. They will have a package of plays for him.

Sal Pal is a hack

I don't know how much of an impact Vick will have, it might not wind up being a big deal. I guess any contribution at all would be a bonus. Apparently he doesn't count as a roster spot until he's fully reinstated; it will be interesting to see what they do when he is.

Shady is for real folks.

But yes, when we roll out Westbrook + Vick + DeSean....I wouldn't want to defend that. I'll laugh when both Vick and DeSean line up in the WRs spots, and Westbrook goes in motion out of the backfield into another WR slot. The defense should just faint.
That is false. Goodell has until week 6 at the very latest to inform Vick when he can play again (during the regular season). I have no doubt in my mind he will make a decision before then, and Chris Mortensen believes he'll be able to play around week 3.

Anyway, I was thinking about a formation something like this: 4 wide split (Maclin and Jackson on the outside, Shady and Westy in the slots), Vick and McNabb side by side in the shotgun covering each guard (Vick over the LG, McNabb over the RG). Andy can call for the snap to either of the qbs, and he can roll to his strong side, with the line sliding that way. The other QB can swing to his strong side, forcing the other side of the defense to stay at home, etc. etc. Man possibilities like this just give me the chills.

Sounds plausible.

If they don't give him the ball more than they gave it to Buck, sigh.

Well 10 touches per would be more then they gave the ball to buck, dont get me started on the under utilization of buck...

Shady should end up getting around 3-4 starts this year so he average touches should go up.

The NFL prob wont let you do it so dont bother trying to get it from Nfl.com, you would have to have it done by a 3rd party. And if you ask why, see Ron Mexico and he will tell you.

Oh and by the way, get a life.

So many people seem to think they got Vick to be a backup quarterback. I'm just not buying this as I didn't think he could play QB before the prison term. I expect to see him used similarly to Westbrook, creating matchup problems coming out of the backfield with quite a few option plays.

If one more person tells me we have the best backup QB in the NFL I'm going to ...

+1

Vick is here to do fun stuff and create havoc, not be an insurance policy for 5.

That was my assumption from the get go, I dont understand why anyone would think othererwise, this could turn out to be a genius move or nothing at all. I dont see this blowing up in their face anymore then it already has, people will calm down about it after her plays a game or 2.

I cant wait to see what Andy and Marty come up with, I think its going to be very exciting...

So you guys don't think he will take a QB roster spot? What then?

I rather think not, since the risk of being forced to use the 3rd QB would be much higher.

We may not know for sure until he is reinstated and the Eagles are forced to make a roster move.

We'll have 3 quarterbacks active for games, almost certainly. While I definitely think that Vick was brought in to be much more than just a backup, he's definitely an insurance policy for McNabb. If McNabb goes down for the year, there's no way Kolb gets the starts over Vick until/unless the playoffs are out of reach. And while I don't think Vick was ever a very good quarterback, I'd feel much more confident in our chances at winning with him at the helm rather than Kolb.

That said, I really hope we only have to see the fun and creative stuff out of Vick.

I think there is an NFL rule that says that single numbers must be used by QBs or kickers. So that could be an issue.

Quote:
Player Numbers by Position
(NFL Rule 5, Section 1, Article 4)

All players must wear numerals on their jerseys in accordance with Rule 5, Section 3, Article 3c (see NOTE 1), and such numerals must be by playing position as follows: quarterbacks, punters, and placekickers, 1-19 (and 10-19 for wide receivers if 80-89 are all otherwise assigned); running backs and defensive backs, 20-49; centers, 50-59 (60-79 if 50-59 unavailable); offensive guards and tackles, 60-79; wide receivers and tight ends, 80-89; defensive lineman, 60-79 (90-99 if 60-79 unavailable); and linebackers 50-59 (90-99 if 50-59 unavailable).

If a player changes his position during his playing career in the NFL and such change moves him out of a category specified above, he must be issued an appropriate new jersey number.

Any request to wear a number for a special position not specified above (e.g., H-back) must be made to the Commissioner.

During the preseason period when rosters are larger, the League will allow duplication and other temporary deviations from the numbering scheme specified above, but the rule must be adhered to for all players during the regular season and postseason. Clubs must make numbers available to adhere to the rule, even if it requires putting back into circulation a number that has been retired or withheld for other reasons. See 7-2-3 for reporting change of position. (Note 2)
