I can't remember if it was in this thread or the offseason thread (and I'm on my phone and don't want to look it up), but I pointed out that Chip may seem to be strict, but he's also fair when players demonstrate they've gotten their act together. Do a little research on LaGarrett Blount, Kiko Alonso, De'Anthony Thomas, and LaMichael James when they were in college. All were given second chances after an appropriate period of time (and I don't mean being suspended for the first half of the season opener like the SEC does it).

It was itt, and useful content. It makes it seem like Chip thought he wasn't going to change, or it was purely about salary. I don't think it was purely salary driven; it seems more like kelly put him in the "not likely to change" group.

There's a good BGN article about CK's discipline history too.

Welp, Desean to the skins is official. 3 years, $24m w/ $16m guaranteed.

Sucks he's in the division. Eagles lost talent and Redskins gained. I'm optimistic the skins will find a way to **** it up.

I hope Chip knows what he's doing. We'll see.

Well how motivated was he last season when he had 82/1332/9 ?

For purposes of expectations on the Redskins you need to look at DeSean's 2012 #s on a terrible team: 11 games, 45/700/2.

Desean will be fine as long as things are going well and he doesn't feel underpaid.

Well that projects to a pretty decent season at 16 games...

Yeh, 65/1018/3 is a reasonable expectation for DeSean next year if he plays 16 games as opposed to thinking he can get to or even surpass his career year #s from last year even if he is INCREDIBLY MOTIVATED on a bad team.

Will be interesting to see what comes of this:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...esean-jackson/

Sure feels like they smeared him.

If they did smear him (and I think it's certainly possible), it sure was effective, at least among the fan base. Most people I know around here ate that gang **** up easily. I forget who wrote an article a couple days ago about this, but as far as we can tell Desean has handled the release with complete class, and the Eagles, well, haven't.

Reminds me of what the Bruins did with Seguin (dif sport I know, but ya). Front office has a choice they know won't be popular, and try to gain cred by making sure the fans are glad to see them go. Even if it's mostly just blowing smoke.

Kind of gross, I'd be happy to see someone sued over that one day, to get it to stop.

It's possible, but I don't see anything conclusive or see what they would gain.

The article used vague quotes from 'team sources' and put them in the context of an article about his gang connections. The article did the same with Jackson's HS coach, made it seem like he gave them info about gang involvement, and his HS coach has since refuted he said anything about gang connections to the website. You would think if the Eagles leaked anything specifically about gang involvement, the article would have used it.

"You see little kids and how they cry and whine when they don't get their way, that was D-Jax. I don't think [Jackson] gave [Kelly] the respect he deserved. Kelly tried to reach [Jackson] plenty of times and [Jackson] tuned him out. Then you look at team functions, when everyone is out together at charity things or social stuff. He was the one missing. It was like he was in 'D-Jax world' and we just happened to be there."

"That's [Kelly's] way. It pisses me off that [Kelly] comes off looking like the bad guy here. It wasn't just [Kelly] that wanted him gone. [Kelly] got a lot of feedback from guys that felt we were better off without [Jackson], too. [Kelly] is very much a player's coach. His office is open to anyone. Now [Jackson] is the Redskins' problem. We have something good going here and it's going to get better without [Jackson]. He had to go."

"Funny how [Jackson] has this anti-bully thing and he thought he could push [Kelly] around; he found out otherwise. His being cut had nothing to do with the gang stuff. The team knew it. Everyone knew he had 'ties.' Those were his guys. That's okay. What put him out was his selfishness. He can try and spin it all he wants how he's 'a team player.' He's not. I'll put it this way, when it came out last Friday that [Jackson] was released, more than a few guys were happy it happened. They said 'good riddance.' He had no real connection with anyone."

"Yes, you can say he was the type that could catch three TDs in a loss--everyone would be down, but you had the impression he was happy, because he got his. It was all about him. A lot of guys thought that way about him. [Kelly] came in here with a plan to get this thing right, and the one major [obstacle] standing in his way was [Jackson]. If we were going to move forward as a team, he had to go. Think about it--did anyone come right out and back him publicly? Not one."

not surprising after no one on the team really stood up for him when this whole thing went down. hell players wanted TO back on the team in 2005 after Reid sent him away

That stuck out to me too. If the players felt that Desean was done wrong, some anonymous quotes from someone would have come out about it. Heck, Cary Williams would probably say something publicly if he felt strongly about it.

The two things from the team sources in the nj.com gang story were 'off-field behavior' and 'didn't want him around the younger players.' Those could just be insubordination, seeming more interested in his rap label than football, and being a general PITA.

Comparing the Cooper situation to this is a joke. I know Chip has a history of working with problem players, but everyone has limits and at some point it's not worth the energy.

the eagles havent said **** since he was released....please elaborate on how they haven't handled the release properly? they cut him loose, issued a brief statement, and have kept their mouths closed even though hundreds of eagles fans have stated on message boards they are 'owed an explanation from the team'. the fact the eagles haven't said anything since the release shows they are very aware of how this situation could be perceived if they spoke more about it than they have.

Stephen A/Djax interview didn't answer much. Djax did say he doesn't think the eagles leaked anything to nj.com for the gang story.

Jason Whitlock's take is good for making you feel that your team was correct in letting DJ go. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10...desean-jackson
