10th according to ANFLS in +EPA/G last year (14 games), 12th in 2012 in 12 games (9th in +WPA). Turning 27 in December, I really like the deal. It appears the Eagles will have competent, NFL starting caliber safety play for the next 2 years at least!

QBs completed 75% of passes and had a 103 rating vs. Malcolm Jenkins last year. His 16 missed tackles tied for 4th most at safety. #Eagles
Jenkins missed another 20 tackles in 2012 and QBs were even better against him. Worst-rated 2012 safety by @PFF
He was presumably brought in to bolster the pass defense, a guy drafted as a CB who can plan man v. slot guys and TEs (even on the outside a bit), and then I see the above. TJ Ward is more of a in the box, run stopping type guy but he is better (and only a year older), and from what I've seen his contract is for ~$5.5 million per year. I'm starting to hate this deal now.
EDIT: TJ Ward deal is 4 years, $23 million. OK, I hate the deal.
Very underwhelming signing even without knowing what Ward got. By all metrics available he has performed mediocre in both coverage and against the run. PFF had him as the lowest ranked safety behind Chung and Allen.
I guess the front office liked his versatility to play in different situations, his age, pedigree as a former first round pick, and his intangibles (defensive captain of the Saints for the last two years, considered high character guy). He's also stayed relatively healthy over his career.
Unfortunately all of the tangible elements point to this being another mediocre stop-gap signing. We didn't exactly get a bargain of a price either, and rushing out to sign him in the first few hours of free agency when Byrd, Ward, and Mitchell were all still available strikes me as foolish. Ward and Mitchell have since gone, and Ward's contract only makes the Jenkins signing seem even worse. Mitchell got 5 years, $25m. Not sure on the guaranteed money but both seem to be much better values than what we got.
Then there's the story that Byrd is traveling to the Saints who have almost no cap space. If they end up signing him to a reasonable contract that we could have easily afforded I think I'm going to need to be medicated.
Not saying it was a good signing, but 16 missed tackles isn't compelling. Safeties tend to have a lot, playing in open space more often. Earl Thomas had 14.
Does TJ Ward have like his brother as his agent? Thats a pretty terrible contract for him considering what other safeties got today. Maybe he took a discount to try and win a ring.
Jenkins signing fits Howie's post dream team strategy for FA of signing stop gaps to short deals to maintain flexibility and building mostly through the draft.

Saints are giving former Bills S Jairus Byrd a six-year, $54 million contract, including $28 million guaranteed, per source.
