Yea DeSean, but offense looked horrid aside from that.

The run blocking is really bad, but the type of runs being called are meh too - Vick on 2nd and 12? Huh?

That game was such a moral defeat (opposite of moral victory). We looked like absolute crap on offense, and won only because the skins are just so awful. A bunch of injuries. Sigh.

how are they doing? Excuse me for being a female I really do not know!!! I watch the games with my boyfriend but am usually sleeping by halftime. LOL going to a game in December (yep got my under Armor ready) and the South Philly crowd is rough though when the birds are doing bad, so if the answer is "not well..." I may sell the tickets and do something else with the money.

Sorry I am too lazy to read through in order to find out...but I don't know football talk anyway. Sad...I was a cheerleader for 5 years. Thanks in advance

Here's my theory on the offensive struggles.

We are currently using (for reasons unknown) a bastardized version of the wildcat. No extra tackles, no misdirection, just a direct snap to Shady and run up the middle. When Shady is under center, generally about five snaps a game, the defense knows it's a run. When Vick is under center, generally an additional five snaps, the defense knows it's probably a run, but they have to respect the pass a little. So that's about 10 snaps, with 9 of them being runs.

Those 9 runs make up a large portion of our overall running attack. So while we may have a reasonable run/pass balance overall, most of the runs are coming on snaps where McNabb is not under center. When McNabb is under center, we're usually passing.

So there's still no balance. If it's McNabb, it's a pass. If it's Shady/Vick, it's a run. Not too hard to defend that.

My solution is to get rid of all direct snaps to Shady and DeSean. If you want to give Vick a few snaps per game, fine. Let him throw once or twice and run a few times to the outside and maybe run an option play. The rest of the time use McNabb, and maintain a reasonable 60/40 pass/run ratio with him.

Fink,
It seems like Desean or Westbrook would be perfect for running jet sweeps, idk why they don't do that, but I agree that if they aren't planning on retooling the wildcat they should just abandon it.

I would just stop using Vick altogether. He just looks awful. Thing is I can't tell if its b/c he was in prison for 2 years and now is old and slower or if he knows he wants to start somewhere next year and doesn't want to bash his shoulder into some 280 lineman for an extra 2 yards.

When using the wildcat it would be nice to actually run the wildcat like this. I don't get the direct snap run up the middle stuff they did last night.

WTF happened to Jason Avant???? 2nd straight week without a catch.

I agree with the Wildcat RE: Shady under center. A large part of Miami's wildcat is having Ronnie Brown under center and have Ricky Williams come across the formation, threatening the sweep. The Eagles don't do that, so any snap to Shady is going to be him going power left, or power right.

The one wildcat play that I did like last night was where Vick was under center, and instead of running that option read, they ran a counter to the weak side and picked up like 10 yards.

I also dislike the heavy reliance on the shotgun on 1st or 2nd down. What happened to the I-formation and the 3 step drop slants?

This exactly.

I cant even add anything else really. The point of this wildcat is for the xtra blockers but I dont even see that developing its very vanilla and predictable and should be scrapped.

That was the least convincing 27-17 win Ive seen in a while.

This O-line needs to get ironed out.

On a positive note, atleast the Spoon had a solid game!!

The sweep run with Vick on 3rd and 2 was good. With that said, it was an excellent design and executed perfectly (Weaver had a terrific block); Shady, DeSean, or probably McNabb himself could have easily picked up the first down.

I disagree. For one thing, lots of research suggests that plays run out of shotgun are way more successful than plays from under center. Also, since when has McNabb ever been good at completing slants? 50% of them are into the ground, 20% are broken up, and 30% are completed for 6 yards.

I feel like Andy's hiding some crazy wildcat stuff. just let the cat out of the bag and run these plays. rememor the emory and henry stunt in week 2 where desean ran for like 4 yards and a 1st down? how about the reverse lateral to Kolb split out wide? I think there's more to that stuff, but instead we remain passive-aggressive. either play "traditional" (lol andy reid is not traditional) ball or bring out the fireworks once and for all imo. don't just use the wildcat to substitute as our running game.

He just cannot throw that pass, its almost as if he throws at their feet for fear of throwing one too high that gets tipped and ultimately intercepted.

McNabb throws a lot of balls low on purpose to reduce interceptions, which is fine, he has one of the lowest INT rates ever. But on a 5 yard slant where he fires it low the receiver doesn't have much time to adjust.

Its a football friday and not one post....

Its really hard to get excited for this game but Im sure I will come Sunday morning. Ive considered selling my ticket for the game bc I care more about the real game later in the day but figured it wasnt worth it.

What are everyone's thoughts leading up to this matchup. Please to not be using Vick one time in this game?? I do think we take it down though, this Giants team is looking a little banged up/ confused of late. Is Brandon Jacobs still alive?

Shady McCoy with a Westbrook style break out game, instead of punt return make it a screen pass taken for 67 ftw!

Holy crap do we have an offensive line again?

And it's so cool when one of your favorite players on another team comes to your own team, and then does something like that. Let's get Barrett Ruud next.

Halftime.

I just wonder about this team. We do this every year, lay a couple absolute stinkers against bad teams, and then show up and blow a good team out of the building. So bizarre.

A lot of times it seems like a creativity problem, Eagles run vanilla crap against bad teams and then break out the good stuff against good teams. But they're not doing anything new on offense today (other than handing to Weaver). Just great protection and good throws from Donovan, simple stuff.
