It also gives the Chargers more opportunity to fumble or lose yardage (the D knows whats coming if they run plays). And he guarantees they get the ball back.

Trying to force a fumble in that situation is extremely low percentage. I suppose there's some merit to attempting a counter-attack in the event that they miss, but there would only be what, 12-13 seconds on the clock? I dunno. Just seems like the chances of them improving their field goal odds are too significant to worry about getting a chance to run some crazy play at the end of the game to win.

I'm assuming he (rightly) believed that the Chargers would not gain that much yardage if given extra plays, thus not greatly increasing FG %, so it was worth the risk.

We're talking about a defense that forced one punt all game. I'm not exactly confident even knowing what they're going to run that this defense is some kind of lock to shut them down.

Part of me thinks SD can run a pass play there as well, although that's risky from their perspective as Chip would have an extra timeout to work with to get in FG range if he gets the ball back.

ESPN talking heads speculating that there will be boos for Andy on Thursday night. I expect a standing ovation and will be really surprised if there are audible boos when he is introduced.

I really hope the fans are warm to both Reid and McNabb. Anything else will be a shame.

I hope the birds get roflcopterstomped tonight (bet against them).

But, if I lose my bet, my team wins so I get a consolation prize. Going to be a fun game to watch.

I can't believe it's the defense holding this train wreck together

Reid coached a good game, esp in defense.

Vick's flaws again under the magnifying glass. He just can't read defenses.

Glad shady is ok. What a waste of a great performance tho.

Dropped punt and bad snap were unfortunate but we didn't deserve to win anyway. Not sure how you let the Chiefs convert literally every 3rd and 12+.

Not sure how much credit I'd give Reid for the Chiefs defensive play, but yeah they made our offense look pretty bad.

At halftime if you would have told me the Eagles would lose but McCoy would be fine, I'd be okay with that.

Tough couple games after the amazing performance against Washington, and it's hard not to have a sour taste in your mouth right now. Same old sloppy play we saw under Reid, and Vick looked a lot more like the guy we saw the past two years. The guy just can't seem to figure out how to play against a good defense.

OL was bad too.

First game where they really missed Maclin. Cooper just sucks and KC went single high safety and just shaded Desean almost all game. Its why Shady had his long TD run since the high safety was all the way on the other end of the field helping desean deep

we had at least 1 play again where the slot corner blitzes and no one picks up the slot receiver. that crap shouldn't be happening still

at least vinny curry looked good

Do you think the sign another receiver?

Vick was bad. Was at the game up high and had a nice view. It wasn't just the forced throws that lead to interceptions. There was wide open guys he wasn't seeing, receivers with a step or two he wasn't throwing to, and times on the read option when the entire defense crashed towards McCoy and Vick could have easily ripped off big gains if he would have kept the ball (shows how good McCoy is that he could gain positive yardage).

The 3rd and longs the Chiefs kept converting as someone above mentioned - I don't know why the **** they played this deep zone allowing Smith to dump it off. THATS WHAT HE DOES! HE WILL NOT THROW IT DEEP! AND ANDY LIKES RUNNING SCREENS IN THOSE SITUATIONS!

Despite the 4-0 turnover ratio (last one was at the end), Vick being awful, and generally not gameplanning on defense to how Alex Smith plays, if Henery makes a FG they have the ball with a chance to tie in the 4th quarter. ****ty loss, but it's a Thursday game and they can be tough (especially on a new coach). I did take away that the run game will be devastating especially if Vick starts making the right reads.

Agreed with all of that. To still be in the game despite trying their hardest to give KC the win shows that they weren't exactly outmatched, and I certainly wasn't missing Reid after seeing the kind of game he coached.

I think we're all guilty of having unrealistic expectations. This is going to be a process, and one that probably is going to take a couple of years. The defense needs overhauled, the offense is still missing some pieces, including a QB, and Kelly has to fully adjust to the pro game.

So much this. It's tough to keep the team in perspective. This is a rebuilding year. The team is being completely overhauled and it is missing it's QB of the future. But with the division being so ****ty, and the way the offense has looked at times, it's tough not to want to win now. But truthfully, the Eagles are probably better off not winning now and then being able to grab one of the great QB prospects in the 2014 draft. Just got to keep in mind that Vick is fundamentally flawed, but Kelly knows this, and knows he is just a one year rental until next year.

I'm not expecting miracles out the defense. They are a really untalented bunch. Reid left the cupboard bare for Kelly on that side of the ball. But Kelly is running a defense that minimizes the impacts of his best players. Cox, Graham and Ryans are best suited for the 4-3, and haven't looked comfortable in the new defense. It kinda seems like they are forcing players into a scheme instead of suiting the scheme around the players.

After week 1 I was like "Oh wow, @ Denver might not be a blow out. I mean, beating SD and KC at home isn't impossible. This could be a battle of 3-0 teams!"

Butnaaaaah

I get to watch this next one in person. I expect the o/u to start higher than any NFL game in the last 10 years.

So remember over the summer when defensive coordinators were so confident they were gonna "solve" the read option once they got a chance to study film on it? Looks like they still have no idea how to stop it..

All-22: Eagles Find Success With Run Game, Read Option

Quote:
* The Eagles have run the read option 46 times in three games, or 22.4 percent of the time.

* On those plays, the offense is averaging 8.3 yards per carry (46 carries for 384 yards).

* Michael Vick has kept the ball on the read option just six times. But on those attempts, he’s gained 119 yards for an average yards-per-carry of 19.8.

* Running backs have gotten the ball 40 times on the read option and picked up 265 yards for a 6.6 YPC average.
