This is just such an odd hire.

Why not interview someone from the last 2 teams left next week at least?

i think jim washburn was able to talk howard mudd out of retirement since those guys are BFF, and the eagles didnt want to pass up the opportunity to get Mudd, so they just promoted Castillo to DC b/c they didnt want to fire him

i fully expect andy to have a larger role in the defense - castillo is just going to be in charge of carrying out andy's plan

ESPN figured out a rough estimate of what each teams cap number should be when the CBA is figured out. The Birds came in way down at 28th with 80.8 million committed to next year. Dallas is #1 with 136.6 million. Most of the articles I’ve read think the cap will fall in the neighborhood between 130 to 140 million. The Eagles number doesn’t figure in Vick or the raise DeSean will be getting. Vick franchised probably 15-18 million and DeSean raise 5yr 45-50 mil with 20 mil guaranteed would be my guess just going off some other receiver contracts from the past year or so. So they should have a nice chunk of $$$ to spend on FA this year if they want to.

birds did a really good job using the uncapped year to shed salary - the darren howards, chris clemons, etc...

Andy Reid:

Quote:
"We felt he was as good a football player as there was in the draft," Reid said at the NovaCare Complex. "It's not a glamour position, but it's a position that is crucial to us. He's got a toughness and a blue- collar attitude."

ya but hes still a 26 y/o canadian firefighter.

I have no clue what to think with this pick, I really just have no clue.

This makes me feel a bit better, but still not pleased with staying put and drafting this guy, as I think there were a ton of options and I don't think this was one of the better ones.

Quote:
What he brings: Watkins is a mature, physical player with a nasty disposition. He is a technician who stays low and plays with good pad level, and uses his strong inline power base and powerful upper body to get movement in the running game. While he is light on his feet and does a good job moving laterally as a pass blocker, Watkins lacks elite length and is best-suited to play on the inside at the next level.

How he fits: This is a player who really grew on teams as we got closer to the draft and even though he'll be a 26-year old rookie, he will be a high-effort guy who fills a need on the right side of a struggling Eagles offensive line. RG Max Jean-Gilles is a free agent and not a great player and RT Winston Justice really struggles against edge rushers. Watkins has played LT and RT, but look for him to step in and start at either position on the right side under legendary OL coach Howard Mudd. And remember that the right side is left-handed QB Michael Vick's backside, which makes this pick that much more important.

Plaxico Burress wants to sign with the eagles

your thoughts? my initial reaction is, why not? he brings an element to our recievers that we don't have: height. obv would improve our redzone offense.

He wears sweatpants to clubs, thats gangsta as hell.

But in all seriousness, we dont really need a 34 yr old Burress on this team do we?

I think my Uncle would give up his tickets if they signed him, he still hasnt gone to a game since Vick became the starter so I cant imagine this would help bring him back.

Remember a few years ago when a guy smoking weed in college would basically disqualify him from playing for the Eagles?

Andy's come a long way.

haha, that probably means that andy doesn't really control this team anymore.

I am not saying sign the guy right away, but work him out at least. if he can still run, and catch the fade route to the back of the endzone, he might be worth signing b/c i am not too confident in riley coopers skillz.

I agree. He's the perfect inside the 20 guy for us. I can't imagine him being all that costly.

What's cheap? 2 years $3 - 4M with some possible incentives?

He's going to be 34 by the time the season starts (assuming that's Sept) but he was never a speed guy anyway. We have two of those already...

I'd definitely take 2008 Plaxico, but he'll never again be even close to as good as he was at his peak.

He would be our 4th receiver if we sign him...

Not a big deal either way imo

I still kind of feel bad that I stopped watching after the first touchdown in that video. Granted I did turn it back on a few minutes later, but it would have been that much more epic to watch the comeback in it's entirety.

I was out doing something for Christmas that day and didn't get home until halfway through the 3rd quarter. Started my DVR as soon as I got home and I still have it saved today.

Mike Quick screaming "Ohh!! Ohhh!!!" as Jackson breaks away is just perfect. The moment needs no analysis. It's the exact reaction my friends and I had watching it.
