USC ended up losing more total scholarships in their sanctions than PSU did. USC should be fully recovered at this point.

I think PSU ends up in a worse spot next year. PSU will likely field a better team since everyone returns, but I don't see us getting lucky again in Columbus against a team that is more talented in 80% of the positions. Urban Meyer has only lost 2 Bigten games during his 5 year tenure. If PSU can't beat the Buckeyes on the road it seems like a long shot to have them lose 2 other games while we win the rest of ours.

As long as Urban Meyer is recruiting at this high level, winning the BigTen will be tough.

This is why I'm torn with the 8 team playoff idea. I dont like the 8 team format because it will significantly degrade the Michigan-Ohio State game, since quite often at least one team will have a playoff spot locked up even if they lose. This will very rarely be the case in a 4 team format. This is why I think it's very clear that the 4 team format preserves the magical playoff atmosphere of the college football regular season the best.

That said, because of Urban, the two teams that would benefit the most from an 8 team format would be Penn State and Michigan. Being in the toughest division in football sux man. Having to play each other + the Urban machine makes getting into the top 4 seem almost insurmountable.

Lolno

Regardless of both teams being 11-0 at the point of playing, there will always be a reason to not rest your guys. They would need the perfect storm of both teams being 11-0 and every other team in the country being 10-2 or worse so a loss "doesn't matter"... But even then, you're still not winning the division.

I would envision an 8 team playoff would be the 5 big conference champs and 3 wild card teams, so say Either Mich or OSU rests their guys and takes a L. Now what happens if the other gets upset by Wisconsin/Nebraska? Obv Wisc/Neb gets in. The team that lost the B10 champ game may get in as a wild card. Now the team who rested their players in the Mich/OSU game is on the sideline, holding their dick in their hands, hoping for 1 of the 2 remaining playoff wild cards.

Or we could just stop worrying about stupid **** like "the Mich-OSU game." Either we want CFB to come into the 21st century and crown a real champion or we should just go back to voting a champion to keep the traditional games relevant. Many people seem to want the former.

So sick that Barkley will finally face a Michigan defense he can style on next year.

I'm sure michigan will still have a decent defense next year.

Make the four first round games home games for the top four seeds.

and what johnny said

The keep the playoff small to preserve the regular season argument never holds up to scrutiny.

We lose practically everybody, and this should be the best Penn State team since 94. I hate to say this, but next year it's gonna be a 1 game season for the entire conference, and that game will be played in Ohio Stadium on October 28.

OSU will probably be favored by no less than 6 in that game. PSU's going to need a Trace McMiracle to get back to the B1G championship game.

I wonder just how excited the NFL really will ever be about a TE who's pretty good at the receiving part but abysmal as a blocker? Good for you guys that he's coming back tho.

Every time I watch Penn State Gesicki is making some huge catch. Dude is a pretty dominant TE, and with Barkley back there, he doesn't really need to block that well. This is pretty huge news imo. How many of Penn State players are returning next year? Like 20/22 or something? Goddamn.

I think it's funny that a UM and OSU fan are paying attention to the PSU tight-end situation. Hopefully he improves his blocking in his senior year. Statistically, he had a better year than Butt did this year.

Here is basically our Rose Bowl roster. It is mostly the same as the B1G title game roster.
Right now we are returning everyone on offense except the Center and 8/11 on defense.
Of those 4 players graduating, really only the LB Bell is going to create much of a hole. The Center was never regarded as the strength of the OL. The DE and S who are graduating were great at their positions, but they were recruited during sanctions and Franklin has recruited more talented folks behind them. Hopefully they will grow into positions without much of a drop-off.

The LB situation is thin, and PSU can't withstand many injuries there if they expect to turn out another great season.

Of course, it's possible a junior LB, S, or DE leave early for the NFL. This isn't expected right now because none of those guys would be round 1-3 type players, but sometimes guys are strapped financially and can't afford to wait for a better draft grade.

Booker bleeds maize and blue. Dont insult him like that! Penn State will always be on my radar more than any other team besides that goat program in Ann Arbor. Because of one of my best friends being a die hard Penn State fan, my life is actually more fun when Penn State is good. So I like to see them do well....but not too well.

Ouch.

On a related note, I don't think any mods read this thread, but if so can we please get ILP a "confirmed Penn State slappy" undertitle? TIA.

Jesse James is having a good year for the steelers and he couldn't block in college.

Nelson and Mahon coming back next year. I guess that only leaves Marcus Allen as the final question mark? Should be top 5 pre season next year IMO.
