We had a couple of Miami fans show up at the Ohio State bar yesterday. I didn't really run into them until after it was pretty much over, and they were surprisingly pleasant. Very shocking. Probably a different story if they would have won.

Grade Card:

Miami Hurricanes at Ohio State week 2

Offense: B
The offense put up 36 points (more than I expected) and covered the spread.
Pryor's completion prectentage was less then 50% but had no int's. He was also OSU's leading rusher w/ 113 yards. 414 total yards.

Defense: A+
Another outstanding performance by the Silver Bullets allowing Miami's O to score only 10 points and forcing FOUR turnovers.

Special Teams: D
This is probably an F if it isnt for the fact that our special teams blocked a Miami field goal and that we tied a school record for most field goals in a game. Giving up a punt return and kick-off return for the first time in Buckeye football history is plain ugly. Special teams kept Miami in the game.

Overall: B
The Miami Hurricanes are a quality opponent even if they have a down a year.

Offense is probably a C. Pryor made some horrible decisions and bad passes. Two should have been picked off but they were so bad the defense couldn't get it. Run game didn't struggle but it wasn't awesome either.

Also
Special Teams Kicking: F------
Special Teams Receiving: A+

Receiving couldn't be an A+, the one had the guy get tackled by his own man.

Overall have been impressed by Barclay.

I'll give Tressel or whoever decided to start pooch kicking an A+ for in-game coaching.

Also other return where he got tackled by the kicker.

I'll chalk that up to just a flukey type play.

Yeah getting tackled by the kicker is never good but it does happen and does mean it was just returned like 40 yards.

Still though both those returns were huge and gave up great field position. I'll give a pair of 40 yard returns (or whatever they were) great grades because those go to the house a majority of the time.

i hate how everyone now assumes the bucks will easily be 6-0. i feel like when the general media/fanbase starts acting like that, it will make its way to the team and eventually be a 12th man for our opponents. all i've heard after sat is how great the bucks are and how they are a shoe in for the title game. that is far from true imo.

Ohio U
EMU
Illinois
Indiana

Which one of those games do we have a > 2% chance of losing? Perhaps @ Illinois, but still, Illinois is weak. If we can play like garbage and cruise against Miami, we'll be fine against the bottom dwellers.

The rest of the games, besides Minnesota, are all games we have a chance to lose, but the next 4. We have a lot of work to get done, and winning EVERY game in a pretty tough schedule with some tough road games will be hard. Improvements need to be made. But that's 5 weeks away.

Didn't OSU struggle against OU a couple of years ago?

Lets see what happens when Michigan enters confrence play and Denard goes full steam ahead and a Big 10 linebacker hits him head on like a dump truck.

Ohio State dominance (BCS era)

If anyone is wondering or if you want to shut up the doubters, OSU's BCS records in comparison as follows:

BCS appearances: 8 the most of ANY school

BCS record: 5-3 (lost to Florida, lsu, Texas)

National Title games: 3 (tied with Florida State for most appearances)

National Title record 1 - 3 (also tied with FSU)

National Titles: 1

Heisman Trophies: 1

Pretty good for a team that is "overrated"

2008 was a bit of a struggle. Down 7-6 at half. 14-6 in the 3rd. Final 26-14. Boeckman fumbled in the end zone to give them one of those. We knocked their QB out of the game and the backup came in and tried to do a poor man's Denard Robinson impression. He is back for the game this year. It will be interesting to see how we do against him. Boo Jackson.

In 1999 we played them, were tied 10-10 at half, and blew them out in the 2nd half.

These teams tend to come in fired up and run out of gas. We are 30 point favorites. I'm not concerned. 30 point favorite has to correspond to at least 98% chance of winning.
