I'd pay good money to see Gene Smith's face when the NCAA finally makes it's ruling.
I'd rather see Michigan's fans when the ruling comes out. My guess is it will loko like this:

Finally nice to see some good news concerning OSU. I think picking up Vrabel is great.

only a matter of time

"mspeedkills: 5-star RB Bri'onte Dunn (OSU commit) is openly considering his options. Very high on #Michigan, big connection w/ coaches, great feeling."

Just need to get some damn results from the NCAA so Hoke can stop spreading Greear-like rumors of impending death penalty at Ohio State.

Less than a month and we will know what our punishment is. I think we keep Dunn because the penalties are going to be nothing like what Hoke is telling all of our recruits.

LOL at Hoke being the only messenger or even a significant one. Most of these kids* aren't stupid.

BTW is Hoke responsible for Dodson (Wisky) and Pittman (MSU) too? Please advise, I want to be sure I give the man enough credit.

I have no idea what the ruling will be and I'm not sure I care all that much but whoever is advising the university must have been a big Richard Nixon (or maybe that Iraqi information minister) fan. The responses are just ridiculous.

If Gee and Smith somehow keep their jobs Buckeye fans should be tremendously embarrassed imo. But since y'all seem to be able to rationalize almost anything you probably won't be.

Where did TC or I say it was just Hoke? Of course a lot of schools are doing it.

BTW there are some OSU insiders who think we will still get Pittman or at least have a great shot if the punishment is just a one year bowl ban or less.

Michigan football is now a better program than Ohio State football, and it's just that simple.

LOL. JUST THAT SIMPLE.

Define "better program"? Wins over next year? Wins over next 10 years?

People are also saying Dodson is now reconsidering OSU. Who knows though.

Re: Pittman
-Washington is really the kid every coach wants. He is a freak! I saw him at a summer league basketball game this summer. His team was playing another team who had this super quick point guard and this PG was just dominating. He went off for like 17 in the first half getting to the rim whenever he wanted. At the half they told Washington to guard him. He locked him down. It was hilarious to see this huge DL shut down one of Cincy's better point guards. His quickness and lateral speed is something I have never seen out of a big man.

It really is amazing how many good 2012 DEs there are in Ohio. tOSU will end up with a couple good ones.

I dunno about Dodson. Didn't he make a splashy commit to Wisky the day he got his tosu offer?

Also: my phone autocorrects osu to 'pay'. Lol'd.

1) y are none of you concerned re: replacing tress? Kind of a big deal.

2) is smartfootball really your site tc?

Replacing Tressel is definitely a big deal. Everyone knows that. The reason most fans aren't freaking out is because I'm pretty sure 2014 or 2015 was going to be Tressel's last year. When he signed his last contract there was a clause in it that he could be the asst AD when his current contract ended. Most people saw this, along with other quotes from him, being a clear signal we only had a few more years left of Tressel Ball.

Also a lot of insiders have been claiming that Fickell was the early favorite to be Tressel's replacement anyways. So we sort of get the guy we wanted. He is also left with a stacked team minus one position. If he can get above average performance from whoever his QB is, OSU could go 11-1. This is obviously not my prediction for what happens but with a good QB OSU's ceiling is probably 11-1. He is definitely been put in a situation where he can succeed but that success won't be easy. QB is awfully important. If Bauserman, Braxton, or Graham suck, we could easily be 8-4 and IMO finding a new coach next year.

There are also a lot of fans thinking Urban is the next guy if sanctions aren't harsh. I don't see it happening but who knows. I would be all for it though!

1) I'm most worried about recruiting. Tressel left a lot to be desired in-game. He was capable of doing great things occasionally, and capable of being consistent against crap teams, but the Arkansas game was a perfect summary of what's great and terrible about Tressel. First half was evil Tressel. Gameplan that was absolutely awesome. Then he turns it off in the 2nd half and plays safe Tressel, which has shortened my life.

I have no idea what Fickell will do. Very good chance of being worse on both fronts. The penalties will hurt him as well at recruiting, so I'm not going to judge him too harshly there. I view this as bracing for the storm, it might suck for a while, but either Fickell gets us through this and he's the man, or he sucks and we find someone else when the storm has passed.

2) Smartfootballrankings, not smartfootball. My site is very lame compared to that one.

An evaluation of former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel's job performance in 2005-06 rated him as "unacceptable" when it came to self-reporting rules violations in a timely manner.

In addition, Tressel was issued a letter of reprimand barely six months into his tenure for giving a Buckeyes jersey to a recruit, a violation of NCAA bylaws. He also was warned that he and his staff needed to do a better job of monitoring the cars the players were driving -- an issue that would arise years later as the NCAA investigated the football program.

Relax, fellas. Gene Smith is in good with the NCAA and tOSU did all the right things in getting rid of that Tressel bum. A slap on the wrist and it's back in the game.

I love how you all keep repeating this when there is no one in this thread who is saying this anymore except the UM fans. You guys are just basically repeating each other.

How are we supposed to interpret your silence? Are you saying you now disagree with that sentiment? Or is Gene Smith still the motha****ing man?

Most OSU fans are just waiting till August 12th. Nothing has really changed so far wrt the NCAA investigation. What are we supposed to say that hasn't already been said? Jim Tressel lied to the NCAA, tried to cover up violations, and got fired. I don't think many OSU fans are happy with Smith or Gee after that presser where they lied to everyone and how this investigation has gone on since then.

But we will see if Gene Smith is the motha****ing man on Aug 12. If we don't get a bowl ban and his self-imposed violations stick, then yeah, he is the motha****ing man and I'm guessing his actions throughout this investigation will all be forgotten.
