LOL. Next season we are better off. Season after probably better off. Season after that, maybe not, but 5 season from now, better off. Na, I'll ride it out. Our worst case scenario is what you lived through the last 3 years.

I looked at every single case that were designated major violations, but lacked NCAA bylaw 2.8.1 (Responsibility of Institution) which is the bylaw in which a Failure to Monitor or Lack of Institutional control charge is levied.

In this time period, I found 28 cases that were major but lacked a violation of bylaw 2.8.1.

Anyone want to wager a guess how many of those 28 programs received a postseason ban? Anyone?

Answer: ZERO.

If anyone cares to check my work, feel free. Go to the NCAA.org website, look under "search" and look at the infractions database. You will want to look for the case summaries and 2.8.1 responsibility of institution. Violations of Lack of Institutional Control are also listed as 6.01.1

Clearly, some people have unrealistic expectations (hopes) out there.

Now, can the NCAA still hit Ohio State with more violations? Certainly. And if they do, that might be indicative of more to come. But as it is... people are dreaming if they think OSU is getting a postseason ban.

Does this really answer my question? I asked if anyone lost a whole season but never lost scholarships or had a postseason ban. You responded with this bull****.

You guys are going to get hit with lack of institutional control. Your institution lied to the NCAA's face dude. I'll prescribe you some thorazine for your delusions and maybe some adderall so you can focus hard enough to actually read my posts.

I have no clue if it answers your question. I didn't look at the data. I have no clue if your hypothetical has ever occurred but there is the link for you to figure it out.

I am just trying to post like you. Only look at part of the question, find whatever is most convenient to argue, and go at that. I think the data speaks for itself.

Milo, I'll put up 500 on a bowl ban. You win 500 if there's none. I win 250 for one, 500 for two, 750 for three and so on

Game?

(Warning: I'm not following Ohio State's troubled situation that closely. I'm in kind of a wait and see mode. Reading this thread and a few superficial articles, is all I've done.) Now with that said...

I hate to play Devil's advocate here, but your post about the last 28 teams over the last 10 years not getting a bowl ban is pretty strong evidence suggesting that Ohio State will also not get a bowl ban. And with Ike laying you 2-1 on a 1 year bowl ban and 1-1 on a 2 year, you can believe OSU will get a 1 year bowl ban, and yet this can still be a +ev bet for you (depending on what subjective probabilities you assign to each outcome). The action junkie in me is saying this is a pretty good bet. If I had any balls I would take this bet myself, but my general ignorance of the situation is holding me back. Either way I must say that that post of yours from the OSU scout site has left a large impression on me.

ILP- well duh it's still a plus ev bet.

OSU directly lied to the NCAA to get players into a bowl game. The NCAA loses all credibility if they don't enforce a 2 for 1 standard.

I saw something posted on elevenwarriors that made me laugh. Something about Gene Smith being tight with the NCAA so the punishment probably isn't too far off.... Do they not remember the 2 game, 5 game, firing of tressel? Idiots.

Uh-huh.

Lol @ UM fans who all of the sudden are seeing things another way, supposedly, now that they smell an opportunity to win one of their own some money (and lol @ calling a bet where Milo will lose money if he is correct, even EV if he's off by a year, and where there's a cap on how much he can win but not how much he can lose if he's off by more than a year, "+EV" for him).

I don't know wtf to say to this. Again, i've always had a very superficial understanding of what's gonna happen to Ohio State. I've never really cared to investigate the matter on my own. I did have the impression that Ohio State was heading towards a two year bowl ban, based on what little I have read, and then MiloDanglers post/link pretty much destroyed that.

This is a gambling site and yet you appear to not understand how a bet can be lost the majority of the time and still be +ev. (Or a bet can still be +ev EVEN IF there's a cap on how much you can win with no cap on what you can lose). Again whether this bet is +ev or not is dependent on the subjective probabilities one plugs into the ev model. Nothing you've said prevents this bet from being +ev.

I don't know you, but now I'd be willing to bet a pretty decent sum that you are a net loser overall in your gambling career. That's gotta be a huge +ev bet! The likelihood of a lifetime winner making the post you just made is pretty close to zero.

If Ohio State certainly will fall into the "lack of institutional control" category, thus blowing to shreds MiloDanglers' link/argument, then doesn't that imply that your proposal for Milo is NOT a +EV bet for him?

Ok, well since you know more about this stuff then I do, I'm back to throwing my hat in the "Ohio State is ****ed" ring and a post season ban is imminent.

Its clearly not a +EV bet for me. If Ike stuck with his guns and said I win if OSU gets a 1 year ban then I would probably take it. He has said throughout this whole thing it is a definite 2 year ban then tries to make this dumb bet. LOL.

Yeah this one hurt. Hopefully we can get him to pull a double switcheroo. One kid won't kill a class but we really need a big time tackle in this class.

LOL @ Ohio State's statement:

"The institution is very surprised and disappointed by the lack of action in this matter by then Head Football Coach Jim Tressel. His behavior in this situation is out of character for him, as he has been a man of integrity and high moral standards since his hiring as the head football coach in 2001. His lack of action in this matter appears to have been the result of indecisiveness regarding the appropriate actions to take in this specific situation in which he was placed, as opposed to a blatant disregard of NCAA legislation. … The institution will not excuse such behavior. As a result, the institution has imposed significant corrective and punitive actions upon itself and sought and received the resignation of Tressel."

I mean that is like genuinely offensive. Wow.

"I'll be shocked and disappointed and on the offensive," Smith said. "Unless something new arises from where we are today, it'll be behavior (from me) you haven't witnessed."

-----------------

I'd pay good money to see Gene Smith's face when the NCAA finally makes it's ruling.
