At this point if a really good lineman wants to a Buckeye, offer the kid, take his verbal, and be happy. Now Pittman was pretty close to a lock from what I have read. I still thought he would be a Buckeye but I'm glad he ended up at MSU rather than UM.
I can't understand why they just don't name Fickell the head coach. Take the interim tag off and make a decision. This isn't helping recruiting at all.
I can understand the bind they are in. It's tough to just hand over the reins to a completely unproven guy and give him the permanent job, particularly when there are high-profile guys you may be able to get at end of year (even with decent sanctions). Also, there's an argument that OSU is still trying to clean up everything internally, and until they know the extent of who is involved and they dole out the necessary punishments, it would behoove them to not make anything permanent for any coach.
All that said, one mediocre/bad recruiting class won't sink a program. However, it is quite bad timing for OSU considering the inordinate amount of talent that has stockpiled in the state this year. Bad time for you guys to lose out on homegrown folks.
