Apparently Dodson had been very vocal about wanting an OSU offer, and when he finally got one last week, he immediately announced for the Badgers.

I suppose it's not too surprising that these kids are fleeing for elsewhere, but it is a bit of a shock to see these guys who were hardcore Buckeye fans growing up to not even wait to see what happens with the NCAA.

Also, it's one thing to lose commits to MIchigan, but when teams like Sparty start picking up your blue-chippers, that seems really bad...
Strobel wasn't quite a lock. He was definitely a Buckeye lean but most of what I read even before any of this happened was that he was iffy. Bollman really screwed up on Dodson. I don't blame him at all. He is probably the second best lineman in the state and Bollman was playing games with him. At this point if a really good lineman wants to a Buckeye, offer the kid, take his verbal, and be happy. Now Pittman was pretty close to a lock from what I have read. I still thought he would be a Buckeye but I'm glad he ended up at MSU rather than UM.

I can't understand why they just don't name Fickell the head coach. Take the interim tag off and make a decision. This isn't helping recruiting at all.

I can understand the bind they are in. It's tough to just hand over the reins to a completely unproven guy and give him the permanent job, particularly when there are high-profile guys you may be able to get at end of year (even with decent sanctions). Also, there's an argument that OSU is still trying to clean up everything internally, and until they know the extent of who is involved and they dole out the necessary punishments, it would behoove them to not make anything permanent for any coach.

All that said, one mediocre/bad recruiting class won't sink a program. However, it is quite bad timing for OSU considering the inordinate amount of talent that has stockpiled in the state this year. Bad time for you guys to lose out on homegrown folks.

Kyle Kalis is visiting this weekend. His friend Wormley will be there as well.

It is crazy to wait till more information comes out before jumping to so many conclusions. I just wish this would get some more press.

Now we just need to focus on the recruiting front.

Ask and ye (may) receive!

GerdOzone Tony Gerdeman
I would be pretty surprised if Kalis is the last five-star recruit to decommit from Ohio State this week.

I've been told that Brionte Dunn is already gone, but that was told to me more as an inevitability rather than something immediate.

fwiw, Gerdeman writes for the ozone (Buckeye site)

Wow...this is a pretty big blow. I would be a bit surprised if Kalis commits to Michigan right away, but I do think his friendship with Wormley and Strobel, as well as a desire to stay somewhat close to home, will ultimately push him to Michigan.

OSU seriously needs some OL in this class, and if they lose both Kalis and Dodson out of their own backyard, that is just a disaster...

Dunn would obviously be bad as well, but less so than Kalis

The only thing we as OSU fans can hope for is that all this talent we lost out on gets dispersed evenly throughout the big 10 or goes to the SEC or Notre Dame. If one team can stockpile "our" talent then it can really swing things several years down the road.

Meh. The talent is super deep in Ohio this year and there are enough dyed in the wool bucknuts that y'all will have a good class. It just might not be all 4 and 5 stars locked down by September 1 like it could have been.

Also: You guys really need to fire Gee. Seriously.

Ohio State President Gordon Gee said Tuesday the BMV's findings weren't surprising.

"The university has a very strong compliance system," he said. "We have always tried to make certain that we are on solid ground on these issues."

Gee added: "That doesn't mean to say we're not going to be surprised once in a while."

Serious question: Does everyone in Columbus drink the same Kool Aid?

After reading that, ~ 0% chance Gee and Smith get fired ... unless the NCAA drops a bomb.
