Can't believe Sabean had the balls to cut Dave Roberts. I mean lol at the contract in the first place obv, but to free the roster spot and just get rid of him in general. Maybe he really is a new GM.

I think Sandoval will have a great year but that's about it from an offensive standpoint for this team. Hopefully our pitching will keep us in contention.

Just because like 3 guys on KNBR thought he was smart does not make him smart. He should have been fired in like 1864.

Here we go again...

As of July 13, 2007, Sabean owns the ninth-highest winning percentage (.544, 927–777) among all general managers since 1950.
The AJ/Nathan trade was a debacle and I'm not going to pretend he's the greatest or that the Giants wouldn't benefit from a change, but he's certainly not the worst.

I remember reading an article a while ago in the SF Chronicle which said that ownership forced Sabean to do some thing he did not want to do. E.G. the Zito signing and possibly the Rowand signing. I am sure others know more about this than I do and can verify/refute.

blah, those were both horrible signings. Brian Wilson said that Barry Zito is in the best shape of his life. I find that hard to believe.

and the thing with sebean being horrible. his first season as our GM, he signed barry bonds. The giants finished 103-59 (and missed the playoffs, FU LA!). that was 24 wins better than the previous year. But since bonds went after the homerun record earlier this decade, I think that sebean was forced into signing players with deminishing talent for cheap to surround bonds. ownership was focused on making money and setting records more than winning a world series. What I'm getting at is that I wouldn't place all the blame on sebean. Hopefully Nukeom will be a better owner.

I don't think the organization ever came out publicly and said this, but it's pretty much known that the front office directed Sabean to take a "win now" approach and sign veterans for the last couple years of the Bonds era. And I do believe he was against the Zito trade.

The good news is the Giants have totally turned around their farm system in the 3 years since Bonds left and have the fifth ranked farm system according to Baseball America.

Hi Giants fans...

I'm a huge Braves fan, just wanted to stop by and say that Tim Lincecum is my favorite MLB player just about ever, and my homoerotic man-crush on him for fantasy baseball purposes knows no bounds.

I'm also telling anybody who'll listen that I like the Giants in the West.

I think you guys have a very underrated rotation... I'm big on Cain... and Sanchez has the stuff if he could just keep it in the strike zone.

Lincecum is anamzing pitcher and who knows how good he will get.

Cain has had zero run support so hopefully we can turn that around. And I agree with you, I think the Giants have a much better shot than people are giving them credit for.

the farm system is much improved, but their top three prospects (bumgarner, posey and villalona) are all pretty far from the majors so you may want to adjust your aggressively optimistic world series projection to 2011 or 12.
