Bleacher Report is reporting Weis is out at the end of the year. I doubt the report is entirely legit, but I think it's worth at least mentioning.

I don't usually listen to such drivel, but Cowherd had Bob Davie on today and let's just say he didn't exactly give Chunky Charlie a ringing endorsement. It was amusing to hear Davie all but say 'watered down admissions, watered down schedule, easier this that and the other thing JESUS CHRIST PEOPLE why didn't you do this when *I* was the head football coach?'

I'm pretty sure he did say "Western Michigan LOL".

I've long been suspicious that he had a different relationship with/more cooperation from the admissions office than his predecessors, but rarely seen a whisper of it, and never anything sourced.

I don't know to what extent, if any, it is true, but what a jackass Davie is for implying as much. I love it, of course, but what a jerk.

You'll find our schedules don't offer as many opportunities to run up the score on hapless cupcakes. You'll also find that scoring 50+ on bad teams is nothing to be particularly enamoured about if you give it a little thought. LOVE how you guys think about the game though!

----

I would be personally uncomfortable if we were lowering admissions criteria for the players, and I'm extremely irritated by next year's ****ing joke of a schedule. I know a few of ye are irked by the latter point, but how do you feel about academic requirements for players? In my opinion, these guys should be proper student athletes and take real classes. Would ye be happy to let such stuff slide if it made us more competitive?

This is for domers argue about, but I don't think it is a big deal for the football program to work closely with admissions, presenting an opportunity to take more chances than they do with general admissions. What I found tiresome was the constant appraisal of Weis as the man who re-invented recruiting at ND.

From an outsider it seemed (circumstantially) the progression went from, Bob Davie whining about not being able to get "the black athlete," to bringing in Ty to address that-- but Ty getting no cooperation/support because he was the barbarian at the gate. Well, they kept losing, and they made some adjustment (however reasonable) with Weis.

I have no clue how admissions in general works for ND recruits. I imagine even if they've been lowered, they are still tougher than the minimum standards. One advantage ND does have (at least under Weis) is that they work closely with the Business School to get recruits in. And, for some reason, recruits are always huge on majoring in business.

I do think that UM and ND fans have a special kinship at the moment: two once great college football powers that are struggling to beat services academies and MAC schools. Since you guys are rivals and I have a special hatred of Weis, I love the schadenfreude moments of ND fail and won't deny that, but I think we share a special kind of shame of completely unrealistic expectations of greatness coupled with laughable results and facepalm moments that few others understand.

If you'll forgive the potentially tasteless analogy, I feel like we're a pair of battered wives exchanging glances across the driveway. We hear what goes on at night at your house, and it's a pain we know all to well.

Texas cared so much about academic standards they demanded they get raised with the formation of the Big XII.

Oh, and yea you only play powerhouse teams like Washington State, Syracuse, service academies, etc.

And we need to stop this kinship ASAP before we wind up in a lesbian movie.

in RRod's defense, they definitely handled the MAC schools this year

that is progress though it's tough to see it right now

No offense to 13th, but I remember the last one (that pvn won) and it was a giant cluster**** and made no sense. I assumed the current one was just as bad and have been ignoring it.

I see you and INR are up against against Wookie and Boro. You guys are 4 of my favorite posters in Politics so I can't make any promises about where my vote will fall.
