yeah of course they could have and probably should have won that game but big picture that game is not a bad loss at all imo

Where the hell was the up-tempo offense that we'd waited 5 years to be finally unleashed against Temple?

Just very disappointing. Fine margins to feeling really good about things today.

I think the one move everyone can agree on is David Shaw. Now getting him to leave Stanford wouldn't be easy but he seems to be a perfect fit. Great coach, California recruiting funnel, used to recruiting kids that have above avg scholastic expectations in place, etc.

Shaw has to be coming to the realization that if he ever wants to compete for a National Championship that its not going to happen at Stanford. Will he opt for the NFL? Maybe but its worth a shot.

I'd be delighted with Shaw. He plays a brand of football well-suited to ND's identity. Unfortunately we're probably winning 9 games this year and Kelly will remain in his loveless marriage to ND.

Everyone in the Saturday threads agree that Shaw is the nut low on gameday decisions.

Agree with you on Shaw.

Not a Kelly fan but like the coordinators he hired especially Elko on defense. If ND runs the table they will have a spot in the top 4. Can they do it? Doubtful but Georgia looks to have a favorable schedule and could potentially go into the SEC Championship undefeated (toughest game is at Auburn in November).

At Michigan State
USC at home
At Miami
At Stanford

What are the odds that they win all four of those games? 20-1?

National Championship price right now is at 80-1.

Monk Malloy should have been pride. And "Avarice" should have been greed.

Really strange game. Our passing game is AIDS but the running game of Wimbush/Adams/Williams turned in a really nice performance. Defense also doesn't suck which is a nice surprise.

Granted Sparty Spartying hard but can't complain about 28-7 heading into the half.

One of the cleanest games of Kelly's tenure. Some standard Sparty implosion but ND generally did what it needed.

Modern Sparty feels hard to pull ahead of but once you do they don't rip off big comebacks. After the pick 6 it never came close to being a classic ND-Sparty heart attack.

"Some"? Sparty gift wrapped and double bagged that game for you and at home even.

I don't want to take anything away from the D though. They made each of those 3 turnovers happen.

solid game against a poorly coached team. Minor nit though, if you are going to keep running plays in the last 2 min then don't take a knee on their 3 yd line.

Pity about that Georgia game, particularly given Georgia look like they could be a very good outfit themselves. But set up for the USC game now.

As much as ye all rag on Kelly constantly, he's delivered a lot of big games during his tenure.

Kelly is the same slightly-above mediocre idiot he's always been, LL

Chip Long has reworked the offense and Mike Elko has worked a miracle on defense, and that's the reason for what appears to be a very good team

bk is rarely helpful in the big games. But this year we aren't sweating the little games in the last drive

This is starting to come to fruition. I love the bye week before USC... USC has not impressed me at all this year. Darnold 12 touchdowns/9 interceptions and their defense has been below average. Hopefully USC takes care of business against Utah and then the Irish get them at home.

Side note... Not sure how Oklahoma loses at home as a 30 point favorite to a 2-2 Iowa State team and stays in front of ND in the rankings.
